Listen to a new The Bear Romantic demo entitled "It's Always Right" here.
The Bear Romantic is a musical endeavor by multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Jesse Clasen. Inspired by a four-year stay deep in the woods of the Appalachian Mountains, Jesse explores musical depths not often found in the world of indie-folk. The first release, Firewood, is a collection of nine songs. While completely acoustic in nature and based around acoustic guitar, the music is brought to life by subtle additives. Trumpet, glockenspiel, kalimba, flute, piles of damaged cymbals, and the tribal beatings of an old floor-tom bring the songs to life with urgency. Jesse’s haunting voice glides softly over the instrumentation, experimenting with tone and timbre to create an ever-changing landscape. The fact that Firewood was recorded in a tiny bedroom with little to no professional equipment only makes for a more interesting listen. The songs are so meticulously crafted, you would never suspect they were written and recorded simultaneously by way of improvisation.
