This week's a special episode of the AbsolutePunk Podcast. We offer to you two topics: A discussion about Thomas's decision to retire from the website and a lengthy discussion about The Wonder Years' new album No Closer to Heaven. Not only was it a marathon podcasting session, but I think the result was one of our best episodes. We tried to really get into the details of looking at the reactions to an album from a die-hard Wonder Years' fan and someone who is pretty indifferent to the band's catalog. Someone that thinks the band is elevating themselves to rarified air in the music scene and pop-punk, and someone that's not convinced they're in that conversation yet. It's like the Odd...

Hit the replies for snippet of an interview with All Time Low's Alex Gaskarth speaking with Team Rock. He talks a little about how bands should be treating fans and what they should not be doing. Hope he gives the same speech to the band's upcoming tour mates.
So sending pictures, asking for pictures, sending texts, whatever you may be doing—that’s not what this was ever about. It’s about forming relationships through your music, not the things that come along with music. It’s a difficult thing to deal with, especially for some of these younger bands who are personally not sure what they’re going through yet, as well. Speaking from personal experience, we were dorks in high school; we...

The (always great) Song Exploder podcast has a new episode with American Football.
In this episode, Mike Kinsella, Steve Holmes, and Steve Lamos of American Football break down the first song they wrote together, “The One with the Tambourine,” from their self-titled EP. They talk about being influenced by the Chicago music scene of the ‘90s, and how they combined alternative tunings, unconventional time signatures, and naiveté to craft their sound.

Ahead of tomorrow's release date for No Closer To Heaven, The Wonder Years have released a new song titled "Thanks For The Ride," which you can stream in the replies. (via Spin). Singer Dan "Soupy" Campbell also gave an interview, which you can read here.
I was at this turning point with the [new] record where I was like, “I don’t want to write about the suburban American experience anymore, because I’ve written about it a hundred times.” I was thinking about other things in life that I wanted to touch on. It started to feel like I was in a footrace with an expanding universe, and I was never going to get to the finish line.

Tom DeLonge continues his media tour. This time talking with NME:
I loved that band, I started that band. That's me. I named the band - that shit came from me. [Being in Blink] cannot be the only thing in my life, or can it be the absolute priority. But can it be a part of my life? Absolutely. I love that band.

This one of my favorite premieres I've been a part of. The San Francisco, CA, band ourfathers. will be releasing an EP called Movements soon, and we're streaming the first single in the replies. Now, ourfathers. are quite the dynamic group, with "III" pulling influences from all sorts of bands, with hints of Brand New, Moving Mountains, Pianos Become the Teeth, Thrice, From Indian Lakes, and everything in between - it's like the band mixed a bunch of this site's favorite artists and threw them together into one massive song, all produced by Dryw Owens of the latter group. The point is that you should listen to it, which is good, because it's sitting right there in the replies for you to...
