This week's episode of the AbsolutePunk Podcast has us revisiting a few of the topics from last week as the entire "U2 on your phone" thing became a much larger story than we anticipated. We then look at the idea of having a "collection" of music and how or why that plays a role with digital files, streaming, and the rise of vinyl. Then we discuss the pretty awesome new Manchester Orchestra album and release method, and then talk a little bit more about Yellowcard's new one as well. We finish up with a discussion about Senses Fail signing with Pure Noise Records and thinking aloud about why bands still sign with records labels. The episode can be streamed and/or downloaded below.

Noah Gundersen will be selling a new EP on his upcoming tour.
While we were in the studio this August working on the new record, Noah took a day and sat down guitar in hand and played 4 new songs plus 1 cover completely live and straight to analog tape. In our excitement to share them with you, we’ll be exclusively selling them as an EP entitled “Twenty-Something” at every show on the upcoming fall tour until the final date at The Moore theater in Seattle. It’s a beautiful collection of new music to tide everyone over until the new record is available sometime next year. Cover art is below and be sure to check out all the tour dates at the website link below. We can’t wait to see you...

It looks like a fight broke out between Citizen and security in San Diego.
We're sorry San Diego. Violence is never the answer when the job is to keep people secure. (Grown men, keep your hands off of young kids.) There is a right and a wrong way to handle everything. When push came to shove, the kids and venue showed their sensibility.. The offending security was dealt with accordingly. No violence. No compromise. You chose the right- Thanks for everything. xo

We looked at a wide range of data including what artists were played, what songs were played and when, what playlists played, what genres were played and so on. We focused mostly on looking for distinctive listening patterns and behaviors at the different schools.

Time's forthcoming cover story on U2 talks a little about the idea of a new music format that "will tempt" users into buying music again. Marco Arment's blog echos my pessimistic belief that this ship has probably already sailed.
Full albums are as interesting to most people today as magazines. Single songs and single articles killed their respective larger containers. This is true on both the supply and demand sides: most people don’t listen to full albums, and most bands don’t produce very good ones. People only care about hit singles.

Rolling Stone believes 1984 was the greatest year in pop music history.
In the spirit of this landmark year, here are the 100 best singles from the year pop popped. To be considered, the song had to be released in 1984 or have significant chart impact in 1984, and charted somewhere on the Billboard Hot 100.

Check out another interview with Laura Jane Grace over on MTV. There is no such thing as too much Against Me! news.
“It was really reassuring just hearing how varied everyone’s end-definition of what gender means to them is,” Grace told MTV News. “Reassuring in my own way in still trying to figure that out. Having other people say it who are further along in their transition or further along in life — [who] just have more experience — hearing them be like, ‘Well, I don’t really know, I’m still kind of figuring it out,’ was like, ‘OK, you know, I’m in a good place.’”
