As I mentioned on twitter the other day, and now with more thought can definitely confirm: I think the new Keane album, Strangeland, completely makes up for previous one. Some of the lyrics are a little cheesy, but the pop and melody brilliance is back -- and that definitely makes up for it.
Was thinking the same thing, though I didn't completely hate Perfect Symmetry, and think a lot of Strangeland sounds like the better half of that record. But yeah, the hooks are better and the pop shine is infectious. Still not going to be my favorite record of theirs, but I like it.
I completely agree. They've been redeemed. It's like Perfect Symmetry never happened (not that PF is terrible...) After a few listens, I think Strangeland has risen to my #2 slot for top Keane album (below Hopes & Fears) and my #5 spot for records thus far, this year.
