PETE WENTZ KURT COBAIN AND GENE SIMMONS
PETE WENTZ KURT COBAIN AND GENE SIMMONS

Three of arguably the biggest influences on kids over the last three decades. The way that Wentz can post a new blog entry and have kids writhing around in fits on the floor from sheer joy. Cobain can cause an entire generation of youth to think about their deepest - and definitley darkest - emotions, at the same time as having them moshing mindlessly. I don't think any of these men have set a precedent, aside from possibly Kurt Cobain. Anybody who is influenced by Gene Simmons, either musically, or otherwise, is, how can I say...pathetic.

KISS is a bruise on the face of musical history, and their cult of fans is fabricated and marketed towards the mindless drones that are willing to succumb. I grew up with Nirvana and even Fall Out Boy (TYTYG) and there are considerable differences. Fall Out Boy's demographic has steered younger post-TYTYG, but that isn't necessarily their fault.

Every generation has some sort of musical leader, but I really don't feel that any of the examples you gave, aside from Kurt Cobain, had major influence on music and idol-worship in general.
