Really good post. And you know, I have no idea why they are hyped so much. There are better bands, sure...but there are always better bands. No matter what band you mention, somewhere out there another band is better. Its all based on opinion. For some reason everyone( not everyone, maybe 85%, but we'll say everyone) on this site loves this band. Personally, I love Brand New and i think The Devil and God is an amazing album, as is Deja Entendu.

I guess its just one of those things...

And come on, most of the bands that get trashed on this site really DO suck.

First of all, yes I will agree that most bands on here that are trashed do deserve trashing. Some (This Providence's new album for example) are just being trashed by everyone when it doesn't deserve that treatment.

Brand New, as I listen to more of Deja and Devil and God, are a great band. They have unbelievable amounts of creativity and show serious change from album to album. But I still feel this resentment towards them because of this community and how they're set on this "holier-than-all" status. Even though I try and let it not ruin the music, it does in a way.

Alot of it has to do with timing. They were one of the "original" emo pop-punk bands with their first cd. Brand New and Taking Back Sunday's debuts were great cd's for the time, they were original and fun. If they were released now, it would be considered trash(to me ateast). Also, the amount of growth of each cd is incredible. Deja, makes YFW look like boys playing songs, and then TDAG makes Deja look like boys playing. And of course theirs the lyrics, but people have already said tons enough about their lyrics. Also theres the fact they they dont want to become famous. They only made one video for TDAG, for the song "untitled" which was so cool to me, cuz it was just like they didnt even care about what everyone wanted them to do, they do want the want to do. Which makes them all the better.
