| Impressions: Saosin - In Search of Solid Ground | | Impressions: Saosin - In Search of Solid Ground |
Can't really call this "first impressions" since I have been listening to Saosin's In Search of Solid Ground for some time now. I have been hoping it would click after a few listens, but no such luck. The record is just, well...boring.
These guys have gone from being one of the most promising bands in the scene to being an above-average radio-rock group. Sadly seems like the sophomore slump hit Saosin pretty hard.
PS - where the hell is Saosin hiding Alex Rodriguez on this record? Where is the killer drumming from S/T on most of the tracks? Dude has to be the most under-utilized drummer ever on this album. | | |

This has to be the single most depressing thing I've heard in all impressions about this album. Talk about disheartening and completely losing interest in this release. Sorry it sucks, Steve...I know how much you liked the last album. You going to review this one?

There is no power in the songs, every song reminds me og Bury Your Head S/T-version, a song you could hear they really didn't want to record again.
Some of the song are not Saosin at all, at least not in my opinion. The only "ballad" that works out okay is Nothing is what it seems, but it is still not nearly as good as 'you're not alone'.
Maybe the well of good Saosin music has run dry, i don't know. It's really sad, considering we've been waiting for three years..
I think Chris once said that Saosin always strived to make every song awesome, no filler, no mediocre songs. That was the explanation for why it took them so long to write the S/T.
didn't work out this time.
That song and "Bury Me"'s "heavy" direction could have saved this album.
