Well written blog. I've always thought it was the fans, not the bands, causing the problems. Because let's face it, when bands try to push on with an original sound and fans instead support bands like Asking Alexandria or Attack Attack!, it's pretty discouraging to the bands when they're broke from the lack of support. I'm not gonna name names for the sake of confidentiality but, a signed band I know has faced this simple fact and have entirely sold out for their next record, and it's one of the most depressing things I've ever heard.

I do feel like GAD coming back is going to fuel a great fire in the music scene though, and I hope it sweeps across the fanbase as well.

Its a combination of fans and bands I think. When so many bands sell-out and just play the same music over and over again it prevents the fans from being exposed to something with meaning, but its tough out there for a band to play the music they want to when the only music that gets support is the crabcore shit. A viscious cycle really.

I'm hoping GAD is the Messiah come to tear down all this shit and start the scene anew, bringing in some bands with actually originality and talent. Wishful thinking.

I came across this by chance, but At the Skylines plays a bunch a shows and I've seen them twice. They're actually pretty solid live no matter generic you think they are.

i agree with basically everything. this genre's tired, getting old, and it may vanish soon enough.
on another note, if at the skylines dropped their senseless breakdowns every 20 seconds, they may actually be decent. sounds like if they actually put the effort to create something creative, they may have the talent to make it happen.

I have not checked this blog in a long ass time, but I really don't care how solid a band sounds like if I dislike the music. That only makes them less irritating to watch than a band I don't like that is awful live, like A Bullet For Pretty Boy or Miss May I. Know what I mean?

Okay, so honestly, I disagree with both that comment that you showed and your blog. I disagree with that person because I think he should have a more open mind towards music and I will admit that an open mind is something that a lot of modern Hardcore fans lack. But, at the same time, I don't think it's fair to say that the bands that are forming in this scene right now have a lack of passion for the music. I mean, some do I'm sure but that's the case for every genre. I have a friend who has a band that plays the style you talked about in this blog and I certainly know he has a passion for this type of music. I've been talking to him about bands like The Devil Wears Prada for years so I don't think anything should be taken away from someone like him or even me because this is the kind of music that we love.

Also, I'm not going to say that a lot of Metalcore and Post-Hardcore is new and innovative but at the same time, I don't think every music fan can really claim that they only listen to the most innovative, ground breaking music there is. I think everyone likes some music that is a lot like other music that's already out there because it just fits with the rest of their taste. And for the fans of this music (Including myself), this just happens to be that for them.

Also, bands who want to include "Skylines" in any part of their name need to break up.
