The Bible was written by somewhere around 40 authors over a period of several centuries, and it details the evolving customs of the Jewish people, as well as deeper themes that don't evolve like love and justice, so no.

Okay, so, 40 bored dudes sitting in several caves spanning several years wrote the bible as a satire. You're so pedantic.

Sure, but then you'd have to consider that the Bible laid one of the most influential moral ground works ever in history, and has inspired many landmark events like the abolition of slavery. I guess the authors could've still potentially been "bored" when they were writing it, but their boredom sure led to some history-altering stuff.

Also, is it unreasonable to assume that, perhaps, the history of the bible and its creation was completely fabricated to make the joke less obvious? if J.J. Abrams can create an entire universe and backstory around Cloverfield, there's no reason why those two bored, cave-dwelling dudes couldn't have done the same.

I don't think that's unreasonable at all. Like you said, if J.J. Abrams can do it, why couldn't a couple of ancient Jewish patriarchs do it? It's just that, it can never be seen as just something that was fabricated, etc. because it deals with human nature, love, and other huge philosophical topics on a level that's real to many. If you put aside all that fundamentalist Republican crap and look at what the purpose of the Bible really is, it's hit a lot of people on an intimate level and inspired them to change their lives for the better. For that reason, it should never be seen as just a satire, if it's even that at all.

I just want you to be aware that you're engaging someone in a genuine discussion about a topic they've provided a, quite clearly, very silly, disingenuous take on. I have no interest in having a proper conversation about the bible at this point in time (and especially not in the comments section of a silly, disingenuous blog post).

I respect that. I come from a Christian background, and am also big on critical thinking, so your post was very tempting for me to respond to. And if you're going to make a post making light of a belief system, you have to expect someone from that belief system to comment
