$150 for that? Uh I think no.
I fail to understand the importance of autographs. This isn't to say that I have no signatures lurking in my room somewhere, I just don't care about them. In the past, getting an autograph seemed like a compulsive force. I personally didn't question why I needed, let alone wanted, some person's name scrawled across a piece of paper. It was just something that was done, by essentially everyone around me. And even if you weren't looking for an autograph, you'd still get asked occasionally, "Would you like me to sign something?"
As the years progressed I began to analyze my motives, putting a stop to what I deduced as frivolous and meaningless action. I don't want people to read this and think it's an attack towards people who value autographs or even something like photos with band members. To each their own. I'm just declaring that I do not value such things and the desire to have them is lost on me.
That all being said, I do value certain mementos I have gotten from shows, be it a set list, guitar pick or drum stick (which maybe makes me materialistic?). I can see one of them and remember quite clearly the entire show as if that small object is a mere catalyst to unlocking the memory. I suppose at the end of the day it's all the same idea though, autograph/guitar pick - a physical manifestation of an experience.
Ps. I should have been at Jack's tonight. And I should have been at YMAEWK yesterday. There's something about responsibility that goes hand in hand with sacrifice. | |
