The first (and sadly, last time) I saw the band was when they were a headlining act on Warped Tour in 2006. I got a chance to meet 'em at their merch tent during the usual signing/meet and greet thing. When I got to Geoff, I stuttered something like, "You're one of my all time favorite bands, I love you guys - and your lyrics especially." After that Geoff got out of his seat and pulled me in for a bearhug and handshake - totally appreciative and sincere. And that's how the band's always carried itself too, in a way.
I'll always remember that moment, on that scorching hot summer day, because it embodied what these guys were all about. Small things like that cemented my love for this group. Thinking about that and how I've basically grown up alongside the band and how so much of their material had a big impact on me makes me miss 'em a lot already. At least I'm not the only one feeling blue over this news around here - there's some comfort in that, I suppose.
Anyway, it was fun while it lasted - and even if things never pick up where they left off, at least you left behind some awesome memorable memories and music for all of us.
