MUSIC IS THE KEY
05/24/12 at 06:10 AM by magicrat85 | | Over the past couple of years, I have heard the phrase “music is a key”. I always thought it was just some “hipster” kid slang and them wanting to sound cool. But, after going to shows and really understanding music more, I finally believe that music is not just a “key”, but, that it is the “key”. Unless you completely leave yourself and your heart open to the music, you don’t get it. It does not have to be your favorite band or favorite genre of music for it to open the proverbial door to your heart. The “key” fits all doors. You can be listening to “Day and Night” and have this overwhelming frame of mind invade you and make you feel completely open to the future and positive aspects of living. Or, you could be listening to “Wish You Were Here” and have the “loss” door open to your mind and just melt into what once was. Music has become the “key” to understanding. Understanding why my grandmother died. Understanding why I didn’t get laid until I was 22. Understanding why my dad can’t hear loud noises and that it takes him back to being 18 in Vietnam. Music is not just the “key” to openness and understanding; it is the “only” key. | |
