DISCLAIMER: NO PICS OR VIDEO. MY PERIOD WAS HORRENDOUS TODAY AND I JUST WANTED TO LEAVE, GET THERE, AND GET BACK HOME.
So I get there at 5 and there's a line but it's not as long as I thought it'd be.
I go in, take a piss, get some food, and then this:
Guard: You need a wristband to get into the pit.
Me: *walks around, asks a person where to get a wristband*
Person: It's at the East Gate.
Me: *looks, can't find it, asks someone else*
Person: It's at either the North or West Gate.
I eventually got it and I had a REALLY good spot in the pit (right barricade).
Now: THE SHOW
Hey Monday - I still think they're overrated as hell but they really put on a fucking great live show. I couldn't help but sing along. And Pete came out during a part. And they played Homecoming!
Metro Station - Better than I expected. They played Control (which i love) and they covered Dead and Gone.
- this is the part where i get out to take a piss because I had to go really bad. To get back in, I used the old "I have a friend up front." Worked until the Mom's From Hell wouldn't let me through. Fucking bitches. But I was in a good spot and was around 10 rows back so it was still an amazing view.
Eh, they didn't impress me. And half the people there were like, "LOL U GUIZ R SEW FUNNEH" when they really weren't. :/ But Jack ran into the stands and passed right by me. I didn't touch him though because he was all sweaty and disgusting. :/
Cobra Starship: FUCKING AWESOME. 'nuff said.
FOB: THEY. WERE. AMAZING. They were so much fun. I went fucking nuts when they played Patron Saint And then they played a cover of "Hey Yah." I could've sworn Pete smiled at me when I was the only one in my section jumping up and down but maybe that was because of my state of dehydration. :/ Still a nice possibility though.
Overall, the show was worth my $46. I didn't buy a shirt (I thought they were all ugly). Only proof I was there is my wristband and a ticket. Yay!
OH, AND I SAW CHARLIE AND I GOT TO WAVE AT BOB FROM FBR AND KOREAN TOM CRUISE AND THEY BOTH WAVED BACK. :D
Then there was a fight at the ended where some dude punched a girl.
Also in the show: FIRE. That is all.
I had heard nothing but bad things about this album. I read a scathing review from a local critic and saw that it fell 55 spots in the Billboard Top 200 in it's second week. So of course, I had to listen to it. The album has over 10 tracks, is 64 minutes long, and was widely panned. I was ready for it.
The first track I listened to (and watched the music video for) was "Part of Me." The song's background beats and juke-me lyrics are practically screaming "Listen to me! I was even produced by Timbaland!" I don't know what's worse: Chris Cornell singing about how girls rub up on him or the video, filled with the cliche video vixens in booty shorts. Thankfully, none of the girls actually danced up on Chris Cornell, because that last thing I want to see is a 44 year old man rubbing his crotch all over a girl half his age or less.
Long Gone starts the same way and is one hot mess, with overdramatic vocalizations and rhythms that again cry "look at me! Look!"
The album as a whole is either Cornell trying something new and failing, an April Fools' joke, or just a midlife crisis. Listening to Cornell singing about bitches n' ho's would be like listening to Barry Manilow singing about smackin' that ass.
The one song I did like was "Scream." I felt many of the background beats, provided by Timbaland, held back the song's potential but if you ignore it, it's good.
Admittedly, I didn't listen to the whole album because I couldn't get through the whole album (I didn't listen to the last three songs). I wanted to salvage what was left of my hearing. Chris Cornell. He came. He saw. He did not conquer.
I get what Pete's trying to say about how when they started out, Allister and Punchline and Less Than Jake would take them out on tour and now they're doing the same for bands like ATL and HM and yada yada. One difference: early FOB = good. ATL, HM, and Metro Station = shit bands ruining the scene.
- ATL needs to realize that they're TRYING to do what Blink did years before them.
- Metro Station needs to face the fact that they'll probably be one hit wonders.
- Hey Monday needs to realize they'll be no-hit wonders.
Cobra Starship is fine by me though as long as you don't take their music too seriously.
But still, comparing those bands to Allister and Less Than Jake is like comparing Brokencyde to AAR.
This is just another disappointment in the long list of FOB lineups.
Anyway, who's excited for the new albums coming out in '09?
Panic at the Disco
and much more!
I've been reviewing this part year. This year for me was uneventful. But considering that nothing bad happened, then it's a good year. '08 in terms of the music that came out is a different story. Not that the music and bands this year were bad. It's just that all the bands this year that came out with amazing music have all been around for a while. I love those bands to death, but it's time for another band to take over. I was sitting around all year waiting for "that" band and it never came. I'm not sure how 2009 will turn out. Just a subtle rant to start off with.
