Weekly "Your Thoughts"
03/19/09 at 01:29 PM by katieissweet
Thursdays are my favorite days on AP because of the "Your Thoughts" post. Most of the time they are interesting and lead to good discussions. Whoever came up with this idea is great. I've decided to blog the question and my response to come back and read whenever I'm bore.

The Internet Effect
Do you think the openness and discussion-readiness of the Internet is a good or a bad thing for the music industry? Why or why not?

Consider a site like AP.net, where it is very easy to find a new favorite band based on others' recommendations, but also where it is very easy to cut down a band without even listening to the band. Is it best that every single person has a voice and can let their opinion be as loud as they want to be?

With or without the internet, people will always be talking shit. Being able to post things on the internet gets your opinions out to more people/places that you otherwise couldn't. People who talk shit before they give the band a chance are stupid.

Like anamericangod said about AP, you learn who to respect and who are here to be dumb and try to get a rise out of people. Also through posting here you find people who's music taste is very similar to yours, and I respect their opinion more most of the time. One time in a thread about The Morning Light someone asked about their new CD and Jason said it was not good at all. I then said something a long the lines of me not wanting to check it right away. A couple of people thought I was saying that just to try to get on his good side or whatever, but if someone's who opinion I respect and we like a lot of the same type of music says it's not good at all I'm not going to jump up and listen to it right away unless I was really anticipating it, which I wasn't. There was just so much better recommended music to listen to. And when I did check it out, i did not like it.

My favorite thing about AP is the community feel. And the fact that people can voice their opinions no matter what. I also like the band/fan interaction that we have on here. I feel when band members post on here, they are more honest then they are sending a message out on myspace or something.
