First six are pretty much set in the list for the AOTY, although with a slew of huge releases coming later this year [Brand New, Say Anything, ETID, Lights, Polar Bear Club, Paramore, Relient K, Saosin, Third Eye Blind, Farewell, fun. and a few more I'm sure I'm forgetting], my End of Year list could look completely different.
|My mind is blown.
So I've been talking to my ex for the past hour or so..we broke up almost two years ago, and at the time, I was devastated. When I look back on it, it was just a nasty teenage breakup..but she was the biggest person in my life for almost two entire years..and losing a person in your life who is that important would cause anyone some emotional pain.
Since then I've realized that she treated me like shit, alienated me from everyone who cared about me, and changed my life mostly for the worse.
Anyway, we've had a few catching up conversations over the past year or so, hung out a time or two, and we've become friends. And I care about her.
So here's where I'm going with this: she just told me that she was raped about a year and a half ago..only a couple months after we broke up.
And it just blows my mind.
Like, I don't even know what to say to her. I don't even know what the fuck to think.
I'm just awestruck. And I don't know what to do.
|Concert was nothing short of amazing. More than worth the $35 tickets and three hour drive there.|
There are a few songs I would have liked them to play [Maria, When I Come Around, Welcome to Paradise, Waiting, Redundant, Novacaine, September, Murder City, American Girls] and a few that I would have been okay with them not playing, but overall, it was excellent.

|Band of my childhood..
Driving up to the Palace of Auburn Hills today to see them with my cousin, the person who introduced me to my favorite band of all time so many years ago.
I grew up on this band, and I don't think I've ever been more excited for a show.
Thoughts later. And maybe pictures.

|Warped: A personal experience.
|Just so you know this is gonna be a little lengthy..|
On Tuesday, I attended my second annual Warped Tour in Indy thinking that it would be nowhere near as much enjoyable as last year's due to the lack of bands that I listen to regularly. Bands that I needed to see this year were: Chiodos, Senses Fail, Saosin, ADTR, The White Tie Affair, Lights, Hit the Lights, and The Ataris [off the top of my head], and I ended up seeing all mention, save for SF who played the same time as ADTR, plus a few others.
I was by myself for most of the day because the three friends that I went with have slightly different musial tastes than myself [they were busy rocking out to The Maine and 3OH!3 whom I chose to avoid..]
First band I saw was Chiodos, and they absolutely killed it. I was in the middle of the pit, so I had to remove my sweat-soaked shirt for the rest of the day after their set.
Stayed for a bit of Underoath, then left for Saosin, stayed for a bit, then went to HTL. That's where my story begins..
I was towards the back of the crowd in front of the stage, near the seats in the venue..these two guys were setting up for a stairstep crowd dive, and I had a perfect view everything. it worked well, and the crowd carried the dude to the front. Then a random guy from the crowd who was with his girlfriend [he was a bit heavier..] decided it looked like fun, and gave it a shot. Apparently the crowd didn't know there was a second crowd-diver, and the poor guy landed straight on his head..and proceeded to have a seizure. It took a second for people to realize what was going on, but as soon as they did, someone ran back to his girlfriend, who burst into tears. Everyone else just kinda stood there. So myself and another random girl took it upon ourselves to inform security or whoever what was going on..meanwhile Hit the Lights had stopped their set to see what was going on and make sure everything was alright. After that, I left so as to not be involved in the commotion anymore.
I thought it was kind of cool experiene just becuse I got to see the entire thing unfold and watch from the sidelines..maybe you had to be there.
Other highlights of the day included:
LIGHTS: took a video of her being all attractive on stage, then after was the second in line for her meet and greet..got a signed poster, a picture with her along with a brief conversation, and of course bought a shirt. I don't care if it's creepy, she is easily one of the most atractive people I have ever seen.
SING IT LOUD: I didn't see their actual set, but I caught the last two songs of thier acoustic performance, and then got to meet them..I got to see them perform 'Come Around' acousticly and tell them that that song acoustic is one of my all-time favorites. Win.
ANTI-FLAG: Didn't plan on seeing them, but I ended up doing just that instead of waiting in line to meet Craig Owens. Best decision I've ever made. I've never seen a band get up there and not only perform such a tight set, but also connect with their audience so well. Their message was so positive and powerful, it was unreal. Also induced the biggest circle pit I've ever seen..during which I was hit in the face with a hlaf-full can of Monster..but whatever. So worth it.
GALLOWS: Most heartfelt, honest, legit performance I have ever witnessed. See this band if you can.
This year > last year.
The only bad thing this year was that my camera got stolen..but I'm getting it back. Turns out my friend is also friends with the guy who stole it. Small world huh?

|Last nite I came home after being at my dad's all weekend..I walk into my room and what do I see? A million fucking ants crawling all over. There were so many of them that i could hear them moving around. Yeah. Gross. So after I freaked out a little, I sucked up all those little fuckers with the vaccuum and set a bunch of ant traps. Then my mom got mad at me because there are living ants in the vaccuum cleaner. But I didn't really care and I went to bed. |
I kinda wish I would have slept in a different room because I woke up this morning and I feel all creepy crawlie and I want to take a shower..I didn't think that the ants had made it to my bed before I sucked them all up, but maybe they did.
In other news, this week is set to be one of my best this summer, and that's saying something.
Today [Monday], I'm going up to the lake with my best friend, his girlfriend, and my girlfriend, and I am PUMPED. I love these guys.
Tomorrow I'm going with my best friend and a few other random people down to Indy for Warped, and although the lineup isn't quite as great as it has been in the past, I am still, once again, PUMPED. Especially to see Senses Fail, Chiodos, The White Tie Affair, Bayside, and A Day To Remember.
Wednesday and Thursday I work all day..bleh.
and Friday is going to be interesting..I'm [maybe] driving to Chicago to meet Pete Wentz while he signs one of our local bands to Decaydance..but more on that later.

|Moving into my mom's basement.
|Not as bad as it sounds..since I'm not living on campus next year, my mom is letting me turn our massive and incredibly nice basement into an apartment of sorts..|
There's a nice TV with cable, a wet bar complete with fridge and microwave, a comewhat closed off office room and open 'living area' for my bedroom and studio, repectively.
I'm majoring in art, so all the extra space/privacy is going to be wonderful. I can't wait.
I have a busy couple months ahead of me. Along with getting my basement ready for me to live in and moving my immense amount of crap two stories down, I have a slew of shows/concerts I'm planning on attending. I've missed a few already this summer because of work [missed three or four of my friends' band's shows, plus a Carnifex show] and certain..ahem..prior engagements [I missed House of Heroes last week to go see UP with my girlfriend..]. But nonetheless, they should be fun.
Here's a rough list of the upcoming shows I'll be attending..
July 11th..Drowning Pool..it's a free show and they're playing downtown outside, so why not..right?
July 14th..Green Day! Sooooo pumped for this! Driving up to Detroit to see them with my cousin who was the one who introduced me to my favorite band so many years ago.
July 18th..Valencia/Every Avenue/The Morning Light
July 25th..Evergreen Terrace/The Acacia Strain..my friend's band will probably be opening, plus ET has a few sick songs.
August 8th..Good Charlotte/Cobra Starship/Metro Station..I've seen GC and CS both before, and Metro Station is a joke, especially live, but it's in my city, and GC are a huuuuge nostalgic band for me, so I'll go anyway.
August 15th..The Beach Boys/Joan Jett..dude it's the fucking BEACH BOYS. Haven't decided if I'm going or not, it's about an hour drive..I'll probably take my dad or something haha.
August 20th..Blink182..was supposed to go to the St Louis one to visit my best friend going college there next year, but the drive is too long and I'd have to miss two days worth of classes..sad face.
|is touring with Collective Soul [ ] and one of their stops was in my town [which is surprising cause Ft. Wayne never gets anyone good].|
I'm not a huge Collective Soul fan at all, but I love me some Gavin :D
Unfortunately they were playing at a bar, so I couldn't go..
But fortunately my best friend's dad owns a local radio station, so he got special access to Sweewater Sound, this awesome fucking music warehouse and recording studio where Gavin was going to record a live acoustic version of 'Fell In Love With A Girl' and it was my friend's birthday, so she got to go and bring a friend..which was me
So we got to meet him and everything and he was super cool and down to earth and everything. Haha every time a female asked to take a picture with him, he would be like "hold me" when the girl was posing with him so she would like hug him haha..it was great.

|What're they doing?
|So I was thinking about random things today, just letting my mind wander..and I JEW song came on and it made me think.|
There are quite a few of my favorite bands that, right now, I'm not sure what they're actually doing..touring? Recording? Being on hiatus?
If anyone knows what any of the following bands are up to right now, please clue me in!
Jimmy Eat World: Chase This Light was released like two years ago [and I loved it!], and I haven't heard anything from them since they did their Clarity tour..so if they're not recording, they should be!
Against Me!: New Wave is one of my all-time favorite records, but it was also released in '07..saw them at Warped last summer, but I haven't heard anything about them either..
Sum 41: Pretty sure they just released a greatest hits or something, so I'm guessing they might be touring to support that..? Maybe? Do bands do that? Support greatest hits albums?
Armor For Sleep: I heard a nasty rumor that this band was just planning on 'fading away' without an official announcement or anything..I'm hoping it's not true..I was blasting WTDWYAD the other day while driving..it always makes me upset when a band that releasing such a fucking great album decides to call it quits..
Amber Pacific: I know they just got a new vocalist and released a few [somewhat unimpressive] songs, but what now? Hopefully touring..I'd love to hear 'Summer [In B]' live. That's my jam.
Matchbook Romance: I was so excited when I heard they were reuniting..'Promise' is my all-time favorite song. EVER. But what now?
Boys Night Out: I don't even know.
Nine Inch Nails: Saw them in November and it was the most awesome thing my eyes have ever seen. If I remember correctly, heard they are going on hiatus after their tour with JA..?
Yellowcard: Another hiatus band..I think..right?
|Mowing = Good?
|I pretty much hate yardwork, in any way shape or form.|
But I was mowing yesterday for the first time this year [yeah I got a late start..] and really appreciated the extra hour and a half that I was able to just listen to my iPod and think about things. Lately, being the end of my senior year, things have been really super crazy and I've been rushing around trying to get a zillion things done at once, so I never really have time to just stop and relax; and though mowing really isn't all that relaxing, I still appreciated the rare thinking time.
On another note, I just bought 21st Century Breakdown at Target [Green Day is my favorite band..don't judge me..:P] but unfortunate;y I haven't had the chance to listen to it yet..and I work tonite until 3:30 in the morning so I won't be able to listen to it until tomorrow
Still though, I'm beyond stoked to hear it!

|I really love these life-altering decisions..
|Okay so normally I don't rant..or blog. Let alone both at once. But I am beyond stressed and I need help with this..|
Okay soooo college..yeah about that..
I've been stressing about this for, like, two months, and I just can't figure it out..
Basically I have two choices:
1) The School of the Art Institute of Chicago: despite having multiple scholarships and loans, it costs almost $42,000 a year (including room & board) to attend SAIC; and I would graduate with over $100,000 worth of debt on my hands.
On the other hand, SAIC is one of the top Art schools in the WORLD. It's extremely exlusive (beats me how I got in :P) with only 2,000 students; and I'm almost guaranteed a good job with a degree from here.
2) University of St. Francis: I also having multiple scholarships here, and it's not nearly as expensive (around 22,000 a year, I think). I would graduate with virtually no debt. At all. None. How awesome would that be? My parents are buying me a laptop, I'll live with them, and the cost of living (thank you, Mr. DeVos :P) isn't nearly as high as it is in Chicago.
But, it IS St. Francis...it's a great school and all, and they have a great art program..but I'm just not sure how good of a job a USF degree will land me.
So pretty much it's a question of money. An SAIC degree is worth more than a USF degree..but $100,000 more? I can't decide.
Someone help :(
