How Bleed American "Saved" My Life
10/17/11 at 01:29 PM by sean-reid
Taken from personal Tumblr.

NOTE: Apologies if the following doesn’t make a lot of sense. It’s just something I just reeled off. I hope you like my story.

I remember hearing A Praise Chorus on a free CD I got with Kerrang about 10 years ago. After hearing that, Bleed American (or Salt Sweat Sugar - depends if you want to use pre- or post-9/11 titles) and The Middle, I knew Bleed American would be a special album. However the problem with living in a town without a HMV/Virgin/whatever, was that it was hard to find albums like Bleed American, and being 13/14 you can’t afford to mail order it. Long story short, once The Middle gained a bit of attention I finally managed to get hold of the album.

I remember my skateboard mates weren’t too impressed with me buying it. This was at a time when “Nu-Metal” was all the rage, and well Jimmy Eat World and Nu-Metal just doesn’t fit.

Anyway I remember going home and having that CD on repeat. At that point in my life I wasn’t in a good place. I had horrible problems at school, and as stupid as it sounds but I often cite Bleed American as being one of, if not THE album that “saved” my life.

I occasional think people are being over-dramatic when a band or album or song saved their life, but in reality, it’s true. Music can help you. Since I was little, I’ve had music in my life. Not in the degree of performing, but there for my needs. It’s always been a reliable entity or even a friend. As stupid as this may sound, but there are times when I think music is my best friend.

Going back to Bleed American, it opened my eyes and ears to a new world of music, and personally it helped me. It’s hard to put into words how it did, it just did.

If you’ve never listened to Bleed American, I strongly, strongly advise you do. You can even listen to it on good old Spotify.

"Just Another Alternative Music Webzine"
09/11/11 at 04:45 PM by sean-reid
Over the past few days I’ve been thinking of starting a small music website/webzine. I’ll admit if it was worth bothering with, so I thought I’d give it a shot and make something temporary to see how it goes for a few weeks/months.

If it goes well, it may grow and become something else, but who knows.

Nevertheless do me a favour and follow Play Crack The Sky Music*.

*The name will more than likely be temporary.

Late In The Playoffs released their debut EP and you can download it from Bandcamp for $1.

I’ve been spinning it on and off for a few weeks; along with The Horrible Crowes’ record.

It’s a neat and pleasing EP that exceeds the potential their “You Won’t” demo showed a few months. If you’re a fan of bands like Mae, Motion City Soundtrack, and Jimmy Eat World, I strongly recommend giving this a spin.

If you're a regular reader of this blog; which you're probably not, then you may know a few weeks back I departed a website called AlterThePress.com. Like I said at the time of the departure, I was thankful for the opportunity I was given on the site and wish it all the best for the future.

When I announced I was leaving ATP! (there was no mention of my departure on the site/Twitter/Facebook). I had a few people ask me what I was going to do next. Some asked if I was going to do a new site but I'm liking the new found free time I have. Some asked if I was going to continue writing, and thankfully I am.

I'm now contributing to three websites/publications; Stencil Magazine, UnderTheGunReview.net and RockLouder.co.uk. My contributions are going steady and isn't as demanding as my previous role.

In addition, after a short hiatus I'm back contributing to the weekly UK Music Round-Up again.

So there you have it, a few personal changes but I'm content and looking at moving forward.

Please feel free to follow/tweet @SeanReid86 and @SReidPortfolio.
