Brand New press is rare, but when it surfaces, it's pretty damninteresting.
I believe that years from now, when I have a moment to reflect, I'll look back and think of Brand New as the band I grew up with. Unless I hate their new album, which is still a possibility. Hah.
Only Brand New could convince me to pre-order a bundle riddled with question marks. I bet the t-shirt will ship with some huge punctuation slapped on its face. fun.'s limited edition fan pack, on the other hand, is a much safer bet. Something tells me colorful splatter vinyl was the perfect design choice.
I realize this Brand New song is old news to everyone, so I'm re-posting it here mostly for my own pleasure. If it's here I won't somehow forget about it and can replay it some more. The combination of electric (not acoustic) guitar, the delivery of the lyrics, the sudden screaming - I dig it.
"Logan to Government Center" is arguably (in an argument between me and myself) my favorite Brand New song, even if choosing a favorite Brand New song is comparable to choosing a favorite among the many children I'm sure to have in the future. Back when I would spin Your Favorite Weapon every day, this song stood out as something special, with music that moves from soothing and mellow, then works itself up to match Jesse's angst. The second chorus that leads into the stop-and-go breakdown is the highlight of the song, and the lyrics on lightning bolts and phenomenons are highly memorable. They're some of the best overlapping lyrics I could ask for.
Consider this a letter that I never sent
However inconsiderate it seems
Or do you still consider me Consider me the boy you laughed with
Or you learned to live without I suck
I know I'm late
I know you waited
You wouldn't get me on the phone And you couldn't make me not alone
My phone bills stacked up by my bedside
With your picture, you're looking surprised You're what makes New England so great
My island nights are all spent dying
Wait for summer to become wrought with lips My wishful thinking
You wouldn't get me on the phone
And you couldn't make me not alone
Yeah, you wouldn't get me You're a blue-eyed lightning bolt
You wouldn't get me And I'm a natural phenomenon
You wouldn't get me on the phone Nothing's absolutely definite till it's absolutely, definitely, definitely gone
I never thought this day would end
I never thought tonight could ever be this close to me
So let my hands stray past the boundaries on your back
To catch you breathin' And get this started
You wouldn't get me
You wouldn't get me
You wouldn't get me on the phone
Yeah, you wouldn't get me You're a blue-eyed lightning bolt
You wouldn't get me And I'm a natural phenomenon
You couldn't make me not alone Nothing's absolutely definite till it's gone
