It's great. It's hard to argue otherwise. It is certainly a more interesting, diverse, and heavier record than Virgin, but I don't know if it will have the game changing effect that Jason seems to think it will. He was most definitely right about one thing, this record feels like it's over in no time. The 50 odd minutes goes by with incredible speed. Listening to this record only furthered a statement I believe I made in my Right Away, Great Captain! review: "Andy Hull is a genius".
It's spectacular. Working on my review now. The angle I'm going with is fun music with creativity that doesn't suck. Dan Deacon has proven himself as a leader in electronic music, and is a name not to be forgotten.
After two listens, it's pretty good. A loud, catchy. somewhat sarcastic, Hip-Hop release. Very entertaining and definitely interesting. I can see this growing on me. I hate Simple Plan, but the chorus that Pierre sings in is really good. Partially because of the production on his voice, and partially because the song that he sings in is mocking the whiny nature of a lot of songs.
I'd recommened it for people who like big guitars in hip-hop, sarcasm, and big choruses.
I've only listened to the albums a few times, but it's an awesome record. I don't know if it's as good as I'd hoped or expected, but it's really good. My favorite track is either "Tremor" or "Wowee Zowee". The best tracks are the faster ones, but the slower ones have a really dark and awesome feel. A lot of the songs sound like Say Anything songs with dual vocals, and a lot of the songs sound new. None of them really give off a STD feel.
A rundown of my opinions on new tracks from some of my favorite bands and most anticipated:
Taking Back Sunday: Eh, it's okay, not as bad as everyone says, but not very good either
Thursday: Very good. Chaotic, fast, memorable.
New Found Glory: Great. I wasn't feeling it at first, the lyrics felt childish, hook seemed weak, but through many listens, I love the hook, found a deep message/topic in the lyrics.
Grizzly Bear: I found some live tracks from Letterman and Conan, both are amazing. More straight forward then their old stuff.
Two Tongues: Crawl is pretty good, Wowee Zowee is amazing. Not only a sweet Pavement reference, but very, very catchy.
