Usually I’m all for free illegal downloading music, due to my money situation and music being an art form and a freedom of expression etc. (Ok maybe I shouldn’t have said that, oh well)
However it bothers me when a small independent band on a small independent label, have their new EP leaked.
Like a lot of bands and labels, other than tours, cd releases are their major source of income. If it was a major label band, I admit it wouldn’t bother as much, but like I said leaking a EP from a small independent band on a small independent label is petty and unkind, and has a much more an affect on them, then a band on a major.
Of course you could argue that the leak will possibly gain the band more fans, as they will be able to listen to the release in full. However if you want to hear what the band sounds like, visit their myspace.
Let’s be honest how many people who download the leak will go out and buy the record? I would say less than half.
For once I’m on the other side of the fence.
