I fixed up a tiny feature on the artist profiles. Currently if a band had a news icon/topic - the news for that band would be brought to the profile feed. This worked great for bands like Fall Out Boy, that had a lot of news and a dedicated icon. However, it shafted artists like Joshua Radin where we had a lot of news, but never created them an icon for the main page. Well, today I fixed that problem by pulling the news tagged with the profile name and displaying that in the feed if there was no iconID. This small update brings our massive news database to any profile -- further integrating the two.
Oh, and I also added "upcoming release dates" to the mobile version of the website. The mobile version remains a work in progress. Basically, it's good - not great.
Since I know people have a variety of different websites they use (myspace, facebook, twitter, etc.) - I never really designed AP.net to be a place to replace any of the social networks. It's just not going to happen -- we're not that kind of website. However, I did (and am) design the website to be a place that can contain all of that information in one central location (easy to use/view/etc) so that your friends on AP.net, or anyone you point to your profile, can easily find everything out they want. So, I added three new options to your edit profile page:
This will allow you to put a twitter link, facebook link, or shared google stories link right on your AP.net profile:
Note: This only works in the new, beta, version of the website.
Of course, this is the kind of thing you can also put in your signature; however, it makes sense to have it on your profile as well! Unregistered users can now view the beta if they choose -- you can do so by visiting this link. To change back to the old you'd have to do so manually via this link.
This is what I did today. If I could see straight I would explain - however, I am extremely tired and my eyes are bugging out of my head. So, I will explain everything tomorrow - just felt like getting a screen shot up before I crash.
I guess the picture is probably more fun than my reasoning anyway. Maybe. Maybe not. We'll see.
Edit: Weird, it's almost exactly 12 hours since I posted my last blog entry saying I would start working on this ... geeez.
I updated my profile picture -- mainly because the other one was old and kind of lame. I went with the obligatory "take your own picture" pose in the mirror. Figured being cliche was better than keeping the old picture up any longer. I felt massively lame looking into the camera - so that's what you get. Whatever I'm happy with change. Guess it also gives douchebags with no sex lives something new to photoshop.
