Stories like these have gotten me thinking: what if Fall Out Boy really does call it quits sometime this year?
While I am certainly not the band's biggest fan, I can't help but getting a little choked up at the idea of them disbanding. Shit, we grew up with these guys and watched as they have taken this scene to another level. Of all the bands that have risen to fame and fortune, absolutely no band has gone to greater lengths to stay in touch with fans - whether it be by giving ap.net exclusives (against the wishes of their label), doing small club tours when they could easily sell out arenas, etc. Simply put, these guys seem to have never forgotten where they came from.
And musically, while they are definitely pop-oriented, FOB still does have a punkish side, however small it may be. And while Infinity On High was a clunker, these guys totally redeemed themselves with Folie a Deux. I will openly maintain that "Disloyal Order of the Water Buffaloes" is one of the best pop/rock songs of the last few years.
All too often, it seems like we don't fully appreciate bands until they break up and are gone. Here is my way of reflecting on FOB's career before that sad fate might pan out. And I hope others do the same.
