| Impressions: Saosin - In Search of Solid Ground |
Can't really call this "first impressions" since I have been listening to Saosin's In Search of Solid Ground for some time now. I have been hoping it would click after a few listens, but no such luck. The record is just, well...boring.
These guys have gone from being one of the most promising bands in the scene to being an above-average radio-rock group. Sadly seems like the sophomore slump hit Saosin pretty hard.
PS - where the hell is Saosin hiding Alex Rodriguez on this record? Where is the killer drumming from S/T on most of the tracks? Dude has to be the most under-utilized drummer ever on this album. | | Tags: first impressions, saosin |

| Who To See at Warped? |
So I am going to Warped this week, really just to finally see Therefore I Am. But since I am going to be there all day, any recommendations on bands I should check out?
I will probably check out Brokencyde and Millionaires just to see what sort of rejects actually listen to that kind of garbage. Must remember to bring ear plugs. | | Tags: warped tour, therefore i am, brokencyde, millionaires |

| First Impressions: Sleeping at Last - Storyboards |
Just starting to dig into this one, and it is absolutely, completely gorgeous. Easily the prettiest record that has been or will be released this year, no doubt. It is pretty stripped down, even compared to Keep No Score, but the instrumentation is applied perfectly. Jeremy Larson's contribution is really apparent on a lot of tracks, as well. The thing that struck me right away is how mindblowingly awesome Ryan O'Neal's voice is...easily one of the best vocalists out there right now. This is likely going to be a Top 3 or 5 record for sure.

| Some Things I Learned Last Night |
1) Barcelona absolutely killed it live...HUGE sound those guys have. I would be surprised if they did not become much bigger in the next few months.
2) On Anchor & Braille's "Like Steps In a Dance," it is actually Stephen that sings the chorus. I was embarrassed when I asked Aaron about his vocals on that track and he corrected me. Guess everyone has been making that mistake though.
3) Aaron Marsh is a super nice dude and loves music. When I begged for another Copeland record, he assured me at least that he would have to have a bullet in his head to stop recording and making music. That made me feel better.
4) Stephen Christian is a very happy guy that seems to love life in every way. I was glad to finally meet him and see him live. Acoustic vids should go over well.
5) Nate from Sherwood was a good dude to talk to. I had no idea how hard those guys have been working and I hope their new album brings them success. He gave me a copy of their new EP, so I will need to give that a listen.
Kind of random thoughts/notes, but thought I'd share. A very nice evening out, probably one of my favorite shows this year. | | Tags: barcelona, copeland, anchor and braille, aaron marsh |

| Enjoy Copeland While You Can |
Talked to Aaron Marsh tonight and the prospects of getting another Copeland record sound remote at best. Ripped me apart during their entire set. No band has been as important, better yet, essential, to my musical tastes over the past few years.
The night ended with me begging him to at least make one more record. | | Tags: copeland, aaron marsh |
