Why WOULDN'T they promote the hell out of this song? Curious listeners come to check out what all the fuss is about and in the process potentially check out the band's albums. Sounds like a great marketing plan to me and it seems to be working with all the attention they're getting. At least they put their own spin on the song and made it creative instead of just going the route of most bands who simply cover a song and don't change it. You should at least give them that much credit, regarless if you like the song or not. It's meant to just be enjoyable and give a good laugh, not looked at analytically and judged by someone who can't lighten up.
