Amazon has unveiled a new music streaming service, Prime Music, which is in a similar vein to Spotify and Rdio. Subscriptions are included for people who are already Prime subscribers, and it marks an interesting new turn in the website's popular service. What do you think? Will Amazon be able to break into the market in a meaningful way, or is it already too late to make an impact?

Amazon has unvelied a new feature for Twitter today called #amazoncart. The idea is that you can add the hashtag to a tweet that contains an Amazon product link and it will then add it to your shopping cart for purchase later. There's a video explaining the whole thing in the replies. I would recommend bands and labels definitely take a look -- this seems like it could be a good way to sell merch and music via Twitter.

Amazon and HBO have signed an agreement to bring many of the premium channel's shows to Amazons Prime's video service. Just gonna toss it out there: if you haven't seen The Sopranos, Six Feet Under, and/or The Wire ... you're missing out.
Newer shows like Girls, The Newsroom and Veep will eventually be made available to Prime subscribers, but not until three years after they've first aired on HBO. And other hits like Game of Thrones aren't even mentioned as part of the deal, so HBO may be keeping some popular content for itself.

Disney has released an album featuring 50 different versions of their mega-smash, "Let it Go." It's sung in a variety of languages ranging from Arabic to Icelandic to Romanian. Gotta catch them all.

Where there's smoke there's usually fire ... and these leaked contracts sure make it look like Amazon is looking to launch a music streaming like service in the very near future.
The contract also makes mention of an option to offer consumers free access to music, but with limits: Consumers would be able to stream some songs for free, but only once for each recording. That kind of free tier could be a good promotion for the service itself, but the idea isn’t actually all that new. Subscribers of Google’s Play Music All Access subscription service can already share entire albums with their friends this way, giving them one shot to listen to each song.

Amazon has announced their own TV streaming device, dubbed Amazon Fire TV. The very small box will retail for $99, will be voice-activated (but can also come with an optional gaming controller) and connect with Hulu, Netflix and more. Lots of information can be found everywhere on the internet by now, but also there's stuff here.

One of pop-punk's most prominent and supportive members, Charlie Saxton (you can find him in The Wonder Years' "Melrose Diner" video), is one of the stars of Amazon's Betas. The show features Riff Raff, Hopeless Records & No Sleep Records merch sprinkled throughout the season along with the craziness the show holds. The season finale is January 17th. For more info on the show and how to view it, head to Amazon.

It looks like Amazon screwed up this morning and for a brief moment Bruce Springsteen's new album was available for download on the website. Ummm, oops?

Amazon is following Target's example and will also refuse to sell physical copies of Beyoncé's new self-titled album.

Amazon has released the best selling albums and songs of all time on the service. Heartthrob by Tegan & Sara is this year's best-selling mp3 album, with Modern Vampires of the City by Vampire Weekend coming in second. Fun. has the 6th best selling mp3 album of all time on the service, and the third best selling mp3 of all time with "We Are Young" and the tenth with "Some Nights."

Amazon.co.uk has released a pretty cool infographic analyzing vinyl tastes, trends, and sales from the last few years - check it out in the replies. Some notable stats: Daft Punk's Random Access Memories is not only Amazon.co.uk's vinyl best-seller of 2013, but their best-seller since 1999. Also, rock music accounted for 55.6% of vinyl listening in 2012, compared to 44.3% in 2004; dance music saw the most drastic drop, falling from 18.9% of all vinyl to 3.9%. Interesting stuff.
