We wanted to let everyone know that we'll all be taking a break from The Gaslight Anthem after this next European tour in August. We're all going to do other projects and stay active in some way or another, both in and out of music, but we'd like to step away from the band until we decide what we'd like to do next. We'd like to recharge and take a step back until we have something we feel excited about rather than going right back to making a record just for the sake of making the next record. We all feel this is the best decision we can make and it feels like the right one for us.

And I know that people noticed on the last record (2012's Handwritten). I didn't notice this, but I said "radio" a ton of times in all our records, and I was like, "Whoa! And this is a true story we went onstage one night in Germany, and there were a couple of fans there that have come to a lot of shows, and they're really cool people. But they actually had number cards, and every time that I said "radio" in the set, they would hold up a number. And I think I got up to about 12, and I was like, "Oh, my God! Wow, man you need to read a book, dude! I never realized that I used words so often, you know? So now I'm reading anything...
"I thought it was a lot riskier to kind of make the same kind of records we did with the same formula than it was to mix it up," Horowitz said. "We don't want to be that band that attempts to write the same record over and over again just to appease whatever, like critics or fans or anything like that."
Thereís something about that song. Itís like everything just kind of stops and that song matters. It makes everything OK. Thereís like a 30-second clip of that song toward the end that I think we, as a band, caught magic when we wrote it and recorded it and when we play it that weíve never done with any other song. Itís like the stars align and we become completely in synch with each other.
Well, the record is what I did during difficulties. But I wouldnít say the record is directly about the difficulties ó not as much as people think. Iím not writing a news column. Itís not like, hereís the details and hereís the street name. Itís not the Kardashians, itís a band. I want to write songs people can relate to right away. But I try to write in a broader sense. So it may seem very specific, but itís not necessarily about the things you think. Itís a funny way of trying to articulate yourself in a song, and sometimes itís very difficult.
