Apparently John Mayer had a recording session last February where for six days he, Steve Jordan, Pino Palladino, Chick Corea, and Wallace Roney recorded improvised instrumental music. He hopes that one day it will become an album, but until then he's released a rough mix of a song called "Little Sur" which you can stream in the replies.
John Mayer will reunite with bassist Pino Palladino and drummer Steve Jordan to perform as the John Mayer Trio on Late Night with Seth Myers February 27th. This will be the group's first official performance in almost five years.
Update: John Mayer tweeted the Trio will also be "hitting the studio for a few days with some legendary guests to record an LP." Commence excitement. --JB
This year I resolve to create more; write more songs, book more studio sessions with musicians I don’t have a master plan for the purpose of, take more photos, take more chances. For the past several years I’ve seen expression as a vulnerability, and certainly for some of that time it was necessary, but it’s not anymore. I want to use at least half the time I used to spend debating whether it’s worth doing actually DOING IT. If you’re an artist, and you want to do it, and that “it” exists inside your art, DO IT. An artist should be able to make it now and let the audience tell them what it was or...
"After 13 years, John and I are parting ways," McDonald said in a statment. "It's been a magnificent journey, which began before his debut album, and along the way has included seven Grammy awards, years of massively successful tours around the world, and over 20 million albums sold. I hold John's talent in the highest regard and wish him nothing but the best."
In a recent interview, Mayer was as talkative as ever, but seemed to have a new sense of calmness as he discussed how his life has shifted in the last three years. He overcame a throat injury thanks to Botox injections last year, but the injury left him on voice rest for months and sidelined his performances — "an intense amount of hyperfocus" is how he describes it.
"I don't drink really anymore. I warm up before I sing. I warm down," he said. "I do whatever I can. I don't want to lose that part of my life again."
Rolling Stone is reporting that Frank Ocean will be featured on John Mayer's upcoming album, Paradise Valley, which is slated for an August 20 release. Ocean will supposedly lend his vocals to a brief reprise of "Wildfire," one of the current singles from the album. The two musicians collaborated last year for Ocean's full-length debut, Channel ORANGE.
John Mayer was initially going to release "Dear Marie" today as the next single off his upcoming album, Paradise Valley, but it looks like the song "Wildfire" was released instead. You can purchase the song over at iTunes and stream it in the replies. The album is in stores August 20th.

John Mayer will be releasing a new album this summer.
New record this Summer… Not a Born and Raised “plus”… A whole new group of songs to bring the whole thing up to date with Summer 2013. I have that hunger that always precedes something meaningful. See you all soon. And thanks for the warm welcome back to the stage. Getting back on it a little at a time.
