Probably the most interesting news of the day comes in the form of Sour Patch Kids (yes, the candy) opening a home in Brooklyn for touring bands. What's the catch? While the bands stay at the home, they have to create content for the brand via social networks, videos or music. What does everyone think about this?
Nevertheless, there is a quid pro quo associated with staying at the Patch. Artists who stay at the house are expected to create some content that Sour Patch Kids can share across a number of digital channels, which include a Brooklyn Patch-branded Tumblr as well as the brand's Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts. Ms. Bezner said it is also exploring the possibility of...

Jon has been fired from Refused. Messages from the band and Jon are in the replies.
I was fired from Refused a while ago. I wasn’t given a reasonable explanation and wasn’t even invited to sit down and talk about it, so I'm not completely sure why they decided to go on without me. We’ve always been better at punk rock than democratic processes and dealing with conflicts, so I guess I’m not too surprised it went down like this.

In honor of its 15th anniversary, you can read an oral history of Saves The Day's Through Being Cool on Wired.
At the time, the hardcore world was so anti-rock star. People said, “look at the album cover; you guys are selling out,” because it was this glossy image and we have our faces on there.

The New York Times looks at the career and reunion of Mineral (hey, nice AP.net shout out as well).
Yet late last year, Mr. Simpson surprised even himself by mulling a reunion to mark what would have been the band’s 20th anniversary. He had spoken very little with his former bandmates, the bassist Jeremy Gomez, the guitarist Scott McCarver and the drummer Gabriel Wiley, even though they all live in Austin. But after a few rehearsals, the band announced in May a series of reunion dates culminating in a hometown appearance at next weekend’s Fun Fun Fun Fest. In September, they played three sold-out nights at New York’s Bowery Ballroom and two dozen standing-room-only shows on both coasts.

Taylor Swift has removed her music from Spotify.
We love Taylor Swift, and our more than 40 million users love her even more – nearly 16 million of them have played her songs in the last 30 days, and she’s on over 19 million playlists. We hope she’ll change her mind and join us in building a new music economy that works for everyone. We believe fans should be able to listen to music wherever and whenever they want, and that artists have an absolute right to be paid for their work and protected from piracy. That’s why we pay nearly 70% of our revenue back to the music community.

PS – Taylor, we were both young when we first saw you, but now there’s more than 40 million of us who want...
