I almost can't believe all these "ads" that have been created to promote the anti-piracy campaign are real. The ones found from 2007 are just fucked up.
Paul Resnikoff, over at Digital Music News, has a series of fairly graphic anti-piracy ads from Universal Music that it used in Brazil in 2007, each one involving a dismembered body part, implying that downloading music leads to cutting off (or out) pieces of a musicians' body.
Regretfully, I am quitting Ovid's Withering. Recently, we have discovered inexcusable actions by Aaron Rodriguez. Multiple sources have come forward and confirmed that he solicited inappropriate pictures from underage girls. I, without any doubt, believe these accusations to be true and am disavowing him publicly. I, along with the rest of the band, am disgusted by these revelations.
The victims of his indiscretions deserve vindication and I encourage anyone with additional information/accusations to come forward (anonymously or otherwise). He will try to lie his way out of the situation so any additional information is useful....
The Second Record from the band A Thorn For Every Heart (It's Hard to Move You), was set to be released on July 31, 2007. It was recorded with record producer Matt Squire. Later, due to the demand of their label Interscope, they returned to the studio with Mark Hoppus and recorded two songs that completed the record. . It's Hard to Move You leaked in its entirety on June 1, 2007. However, their record label, Kickball Records, was closed by its parent company Interscope Records, leaving the record shelved. The record has never...
Here are three previously unheard initial run-throughs of 'Something Is Squeezing My Skull', 'One Day Goodbye Will Be Farewell' and 'Mama Lay Softly On The Riverbed' from the 2008 Years Of Refusal sessions.
After a music manager turned down a request for one of her artists to collaborate with another, she got lambasted by the requester because she's a woman. The Huffington Post has the story:
The email from a man called 'Terry' read: "Emma, shame you're female, maybe you'd make a decent manager. It's a male industry so maybe you need to take note of that, and cut your losses. If I need a cleaner - I'll holla at you. Thanks you piece of shit. Terry."

We would like to express our deepest sympathy to Tom Alderson, his family, and his friends at this time. Although it is clear that little can change the trauma this situation has caused Tom, the people close to him, and the community at large, we would like to extend our support to Tom and his recovery. We do not condone senseless violence in our community. We are all a part of this scene because we feel passionate about this music and this...
Their first performance as Dead & Company is set for Halloween night (Oct. 31) at New York’s Madison Square Garden, where the Grateful Dead had played more than 50 times since its formation in 1965. Ilya Goldberg, Emancipator's violinist, has announced that he will be releasing his debut album under the moniker Lapa. The album, titled Meeting of the Waters is coming out on September 9th via Loci Records. You can hear the first single “Roadwalk” in the replies, or download it at “Name Your Price” on Bandcamp.
While the Russian composer and violinist’s talent and extensive knowledge and interest in Western music set him apart in his home country, Goldberg quickly realized that in order to fully utilize and broaden the scope of his musical ambitions, he would need to relocate to America. His debut record is a testament to that commitment. His music explodes with the technicolor...
Lower have announced new fall tour dates which you can find in the replies along with the group's latest track called "At The Endless Party." The band will release their new EP, I’m A Lazy Son… But I’m The Only Son, on September 9th via Matador Records.
A Jawbreaker fan, who used to sell bootlegs of the band's b-sides on eBay -- 15 years ago -- wrote to the band to apologize and repay the money.
I got a letter today. No return address on the envelope. I open it up and a couple of postal money orders fall out. I figure it's someone having trouble with the jawbreakerband website ordering a shirt or record. I read the note:
It looks good on him. I’ve always felt Desaparecidos was the best fit for Oberst’s most unhinged, freaked-out vocal performances, and working in this context seems to have ignited a compelling aspect of the storyteller in him. Payola details the pervasive horror and battered hope of a moment boiling over with institutional rot both macro (American imperialism, antiquated religious zealotry) and micro (the yawning death of the record business, as addressed on “Backsell”). Oberst’s lyrics are direct (“All the founding fathers sowed their seeds into servant girls”), blunt (“It’s a locker room of CFOs telling racist...
The Associated Press is reporting that former Owl City member Daniel Jorgensen has been charged with criminal sexual contact and attempting to lure a 14-year-old girl to his hotel room in Atlantic City in 2013.
Authorities say he committed criminal sexual contact on the beach and then tried to lure the girl to his hotel room and the band's tour bus to have sex. Bail was set at $100,000. It wasn't immediately clear if he had an attorney. The second-degree attempted luring charge carries a potential penalty of five to 10 years in prison. Jorgensen played guitar for Owl City.
Beats 1 now allows you to listen to the shows again via replays.
The easiest way to find Replays is to look for the DJ's curator page on Connect (such as "Julie Adenuga on Beats 1"), tap the Connect tab, and look for a playable Replay. This way, you'll be able to listen to a show in its entirety without having to skip the DJ talk and interviews with the playlists – which are still available if you only want to get the songs from each show.
Hit the replies to stream a new song and music video from Donovan Wolfington titled "Mosquito" via Nerdist. How to Treat the Ones You Love releases August 21st via Topshelf Records and can be preordered here. If the three released tracks are any indication, this very well may be an AOTY contender.
Welcome to Missaligned, the first extension of the MV Podcast family and a biweekly show produced and created by Deanna Chapman, Ashley Aron and Caitlin DeWeese. Personally, I wanted a show that featured strong women, talking about issues that pertain to our female readers and beyond. And while I’m sure their focus will expand throughout the podcast’s lifetime (which I hope is long and extensive) I think we’ve found just that. Can’t tell you how excited I am for this to...
