When we wrote and recorded our first record, it was before "Defend Pop Punk" and that type of shit. Once it came out, we were very embraced by that community, and we weren’t necessarily comfortable with that. So we kind of made this reactionary record where it sort of focused on what we weren’t good at, and trying to succeed that way. But yeah, you should just make a record you want to make and not think about people’s expectations.
You can read our interview with This Wild Lifehere. The band is currently on the Warped Tour, and will be releasing more video content in the fall, as well as writing new material. The band will also be one of the opening acts on Sleeping With Sirens and Pierce The Veil's winter co-headling tour.
We’re going to do a really large U.S. Tour in the winter that isn’t going to allow us to do any fall touring because of Warped Tour’s radius clause. So we’ll be home and we’ve discussed doing some different things. We’re definitely going to put out more video content in that time, we’ll be writing more because we want to get ahead of the next record – our record’s been out for a month now,...
Considering its caffeinated, soused, sweet, and wired music, it’s fitting Joyce Manor was consecrated over an alcoholic energy drink. And as a kind of quintessential California suburb, the physical and conceptual “Torrance” is the perfect place to inspire a perfect summer rock album, i.e., Joyce Manor’s new LP, Never Hungover Again, released today. Most people drawn to this music formed their idea of “summer” at a time in one’s life when summer was significantly different from the rest of the year — Johnson describes his own as consisting of “backyard shows, everyone would be skateboarding, chased off by security guards, throwing water...

A lot of it is about relationships that can’t last and deteriorate for whatever reason, I think that’s more of a theme on all of our records. I spend quite a bit of time alone so that probably plays into it. Most of the songs touch on that in some way.
Veara has been quietly releasing some of the strongest pop-punk music from the scene over the past few years. Noisey's article on "The Method Behind letlive.'s Madness" is an interview with frontman Jason Butler discussing the duality of his presence and the mindset and meaning behind his live performance.
It is a rather interesting duality when I stop to think to about it or discuss it with someone like yourself. It’s this very demanding, as well as commanding, duality and it’s quite ironic, because in the past when they were happening, those emotions would actually make me become rather placid and slow me down. I think my way of chilling with them now is how you’ve put it before—almost exorcising them, like really getting rid of them and expelling them in a way that, I guess, is rather...

If there was something we were actually worried about, it would be that the punk community tends to shun what comes next for a band after they release a successful album. If a relatively unknown band releases a good album people like to jump on that because they like to feel like they’re a part of something and then they’re immediately on their guard for the next release.

We presented them one song off of our latest album and asked them what they would do with a certain section if I (Jason Aalon) never sang in said section. We asked them to explore with free reign utilizing their particular style and prose. The point of this was not only to share our gratitude and adoration for other bands/artists, but to work with other artists...
