Most airlines and TSA agents will give musicians trouble if they try to bring instruments as carry-ons, but it appears the FAA Modernization and Reform Act of 2012 made it entirely legal. Section 41724 is below, as pointed out on Ari's Take. Ever taken an instrument on a plane?
"An air carrier providing air transportation shall permit a passenger to carry a violin, guitar, or other musical instrument in the aircraft cabin, without charging the passenger a fee in addition to any standard fee that carrier may require for comparable carry-on baggage, if
(A) the instrument can be stowed safely in a suitable baggage compartment in the aircraft cabin or under a passenger seat, in...

Pitchfork has introduced The Pitchfork Review, a quarterly publication that the company says will feature "long-form feature stories, photography, design, cartoons and other ephemera ... document[ing] music culture, past and present." The introductory rate if you sign up for the first four issues is $11.25 per issue in the United States, and the single-issue / newsstand price is $19.96. Instead of selling ads, Pitchfork has locked in Converse as the exclusive advertiser for the first year and there will be an accompanying 7" with exclusive tracks. Fast Company has a short profile on the news, where Pitchfork CEO Ryan Schreiber draws parallels between the company launching online in 1996,...

Producer and all-around good guy Chris Common (former drummer for These Arms Are Snakes; producer/engineer of some of your favorite albums from Pelican, Minus The Bear, and many more) recently fell and cracked his head open. 17 staples and 2 MRIs later and Chris now has medical bills upwards of $7,000. He's created an Indiegogo project to help pay those bills. Check it out and help if you can.

Lauren Mayberry (vocalist for CHVRCHES) has written an excellent op-ed for The Guardian discussing why she will not tolerate online misogyny. It's a must-read article on a very important topic in today's society.
What I do not accept, however, is that it is all right for people to make comments ranging from "a bit sexist but generally harmless" to openly sexually aggressive. That it is something that "just happens". Is the casual objectification of women so commonplace that we should all just suck it up, roll over and accept defeat? I hope not. Objectification, whatever its form, is not something anyone should have to "just deal with".

In the short term, they are looking for some help to stay afloat while the future of the venue takes shape. If you'd like to help, you can donate and equally as important for those living in the South Florida area, please share the news. The Talent Farm is not only a prime location for local South Florida bands to play, but has hosted shows by many AP.net favorites such as The Wonder Years, Title Fight, Balance and Composure, Fireworks, Man Overboard and too many more to name. Don't expect Justin Vernon to write another Bon Iver record anytime soon. He recently told TripleJ that he doesn't "really write songs anymore." Vernon's other project, Volcano Choir, released its new album, Repave, today.
"I don't really write songs anymore," he said. "The last Bon Iver record was a very 'sitting down with a guitar and writing' kind of record. I really have to be in a specific headspace to even begin to illuminate an idea that would create another Bon Iver record, and I'm just not there. I'm really honoured that Bon Iver gives me a platform to do whatever I want, but there's only so much time you can spend digging through yourself before you become insular. I'm not in...

If you ever dreamed of being able to purchase a kale salad with a side of Arcade Fire, then today's your lucky day. Select Whole Foods stores will now be selling vinyl records along side all the organic, gluten-free food you can handle.
Whole Foods has good reason to get into the music game: Starbucks, of course, has been selling music for white people and those who love them for years. And concerning vinyl, 2012 saw a 19% upswing in wax sales, a trend that has been consistent for the last half decade. Urban Outfitters, a master of disseminating and commodifying alternative culture, has had success with vinyl as well.

While we don't believe someone expressing their sexuality to be newsworthy, it's always nice to show support for those in the community who are brave enough to do so. Today, Jenny Owen Youngs has come out of the closet and written a lengthy blog about her sexuality. All of us at AP.net couldn't be more proud and happier for Jenny and we hope that her act of courage inspires others.
I’m writing to tell you, among other things, that I am super gay. This may or may not come as a surprise to you. If it does: Surprise! If it does not: You were right all along! Either way: Hooray!
