Good morning from Austin, TX. Today starts the first day of the seventh annual Fun Fun Fun Fest. Last night I saw great sets from Superchunk, Dwarves and The Impalers. Be sure to follow me through the weekend on our new Instagram feed: @absolutepunk. I'll be making plenty of snide remarks which may not reflect the views of this site through my Twitter here. If you're down here for the weekend, be sure to say "Hi!" and come pit with me during Converge tonight. I'm just kidding, I don't want to be killed the first day, but I'll see you there, I'll be the old guy in the back.
Adam Pfleider on 11/02/12 - 08:21 AM
Have you ever wanted to know what Jason Tate's least favorite genre of music is? How about which unsigned bands Drew Beringer would sign? What would Eda eat for a last meal? You can find these answers and much more in Part II of our Staff Interview, which you can read here. Did you miss the first part? You can read Part I here. Thanks for all your questions, and we'll do it again this time next year.

We're excited to be streaming the re-release of To The Wind's debut EP, No More Than This, out on Pure Noise Records, November 6th. No strangers to those who live in the Northwest, the band packs a powerful punch that will please fans of The Ghost Inside, It Prevails, and It Dies Today. Even if you consider yourself a casual fan of agressive music, this EP is a must listen. Head on down to the band's AP.net profile to check it out. If you like what you hear, you can pre-order the record here.

From The InterviewI think it's idolatry, you know what I mean? It's like, "I'm nobody, who the hell am I? I'm just a guy like you who loves God..." and it's trying. I dont get it bro, I really don't understand it, and it gets frustrating, it's been a 20 year battle for us of like "Why am I even a Christian when we haven't been received by the Christian church?" - we have too many tattoos, our music is too heavy, etc. At the end of the day, I have to answer to the Lord.
Jake Denning on 10/29/12 - 04:04 PM
Lots of us are probably stuck inside today. So let's get through this terrible storm together, in a turntable room. Stay safe everyone!

This week's edition of the Self-Promotion Spotlight features Buffalo, NY's The Traditional. Their style of indie alt.rock is not unlike Seahaven, All Get Out, Manchester Orchestra or Balance and Composure. Their new EP You Can't Rebuild Forever will be released on Halloween. For more information on the band, head to their Bandcamp. Want to be featured in the Self-Promotion Spotlight? It's easy. Just sign up for an AP.net account and post in the Self-Promotion forum.

Fest 11 is now only days away, and a lot of people are starting to arrive or get closer to Gainesville. While you're on your way in and out of this fine city, or if you'll be in the north-central Florida area for a little bit of time, you might want to take advantage of some of the awesome pre- and post-Fest shows around here. While Fest has an incredible lineup of its own, there are really only so many bands you can see in three days. Setting your schedule for before and after Fest can guarantee you seeing a few bands, which will reduce your conflicts during the weekend and turn an already-awesome three-day experience into an are-you-crazy-enough-to-attempt-this five or six day...

Two years ago, Devo had to cancel their headlining performance at Fun Fun Fun Fest due to injury and only weeks before the festival. It was announced that Descendents would be reuniting for the first time in about a decade to fill the spot, and as someone who was there, it was a blast. Our friends at Light and Noise TV were there to capture the whole thing, including the encore where Rise Against's Tim Mcllrath joined the band for "Bikeage." In case you haven't been able to see one of the one-offs, head to the replies to watch the full set. The seventh annual Fun Fun Fun Fest happens next weekend, and tickets are still available here.

Check out our interview with Toronto based journalist/Junior Battles band member Sam Sutherland over here. We discuss his new book, Perfect Youth: The Birth of Canadian Punk, which was released earlier this month through ECW Press. You can grab a copy here.
From the InterviewI was covering SXSW for work and I just sort of mentioned to him that I was working on the book. He lived in Seattle and I knew he was familiar with bands from BC like the Pointed Sticks, D.O.A. and the Subhumans. He just goes off talking about Teenage Head, D.O.A. and all these bands and Im just thinking Im talking to Duff McKagan from Guns N Fucking Roses right now.

Check out our interview with Mac Miller, here. We talk current collaborations, his upcoming sophomore full length record, and more.
From The InterviewThe first album was like zero collaborations, so the second one is full of a lot more collaborations. Earl's on there, Vince Staples is on there, Action Bronson's on there, Gucci, a lot of people. And then the whole TDE movement is a big part of the record, they're good friends of mine as well.

Hey all, remember that Topshelf Records CMJ Showcase that we're presenting along with PropertyOfZack? There were spaces for a couple of mystery bands on the bill, and we're now allowed to tell you that Into It. Over It. is one of the special guests. He joins an awesome lineup consisting of The World Is A Beautiful Place..., Slingshot Dakota, A Great Big Pile of Leaves, Diamond Youth, Prawn, Have Mercy and one more special guest yet to be announced. Remember to RSVP on Facebook if you're going to attend, and don't forget that we're sponsoring the Run For Cover Records Showcase too!

Today's edition of the Self-Promotion Spotlight focuses on Las Vegas, NV's Avalon Landing. The quintet, which has been making music since 2003 (under the moniker Standard of Living) is currently in the pre-production phase of their as-yet untitled sophomore album. The piano-poppers play music not unlike Jack's Mannequin, My Favorite Highway and The Fray. Head to the replies to hear their song "The Cure." For more information on being the featured Self-Promotion Spotlight band/artist, sign up for an AP.net account and post in the Self-Promotion forum.
