Spotify for Artists is an effort to engage artists and calm fears that streaming services are bad for musicians (fears personified by high-profile names like Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke). The biggest news is a real-time analytics dashboard that tracks how often an artist's music is being listened to and which songs are most popular. In addition to these basic metrics, the dashboard also offers up demographical insights, letting artists check up on their fans' age, gender, and location. It's like Google...
Kevin Geyer (The Story So Far) and Dan Rose (Daybreaker) have officially announced their new project Elder Brother. Their debut record was recorded at The Panda Studios with Sam Pura in August. Elder Brother's debut record will be released in early Spring 2014 on Pure Noise Records. The band's first shows will be with Misser in January 2014. Dates are in the replies.
This “you saved my life”, “you’re my hero” and “you’re my voice” thing has become an unbearable burden and a downright eye roller. NO. I did not save your life. NO.. band X, Y or Z did not save your life. IF in fact you were on the brink of any self harming action… it was YOU who pulled yourself from the ledge. You saved your life, You are the hero. Why are people not willing to take credit for their own actions? Thats right… because thats what fans think bands want to hear. I’m not taking ANYTHING away from people who do self harm or have a hard time...

A middle schooler from North Carolina sent A$AP Rocky a nice letter for a school project. The spelling might not be great, but the sentiment surely makes up for it. Check out the letter in the replies.

Welcome to My Back Pages, a collaborative staff feature that will survey a landscape of renowned classics and unheralded gems alike, most of which no one around here ever writes a word about. The rules are simple and loose: we won’t cover anything from this millennium and we will avoid all or most AP.net favorites—though we might make an exception if something is nearing a milestone anniversary. Beyond that though, anything is fair game. So if you have an album, artist, or genre you would like to see discussed in this feature, feel free to throw us a few recs.
Today we take a look at the seminal debut from The Velvet Underground. Whether you know it for its iconic...
Here are the albums that are in stores today. Pick up anything good? What do you recommend for other viewers? If we missed anything, please add it to our calendar. Check out rdio or spinner for album streams of new releases.
We sought out a small, local coffee roaster in Fort Collins, sampled coffees from around the world, then roasted, cupped, and re-roasted until we felt it epitomized what we have been singing about for all of these years. Ultra dark, robust, and of course, eccentric. Sourced from a family farm, Finca Candelaria, located in the Candelaria region of Guatemala made famous in 1974 for its expansive underground cave system that spans over 80km. As far as the coffee goes, the high altitude and rich volcanic soil create the environment to grow very dense coffee beans- meaning that they are chocked full of complex flavors but...
Not a whole ton came out in November, but the AP.net staff gave it our best shot at creating a playlist of things we really liked anyway. Have other things we (and everyone) should check out? Hit the replies.

In between their ongoing US tour with The Misfits, the band will being doing a string of US tour dates with The Business. Full dates are in the replies.
We recorded our EP back in April of this year. We experimented and wrote this EP for you guys. We listened to what you guys wanted and we tried our best to give you that in five very different songs. The issue we encountered with this EP was it lacked a promised deadline, sort of like our debut album, which took three years to release. We were supposed to release this EP twice, before two different tours. Once in the middle of the year and another in September. Then the real shit storm hit, our RV died in the middle of the Scream It Like You Mean It tour and our label told us they would no longer release our music. There was...
Three members of Quiet Out Loud have quit the band according to a blog post by ex-member Matt Lillie. I know what you're thinking, "who the fuck are these guys and why do I care?" Well, I'm with you ... I'm only posting it because someonethreatened to sue Zack for this same post and well, fuck that.
Then he proceeded to threaten me with physical violence while to claim everything as his own when the rest of the band including myself decided to go on with the show with a fill in. So that we didn’t hurt the bands reputation or let down fans. (picture below). Now last time I check a “good mature 28 year old man” doesn’t do this type of stuff. Also over the past few days he has proceeded...
The Rolling Stones favorite American food? Something they made up called "Hot Dogs on the Rocks." It's hot dogs, mashed potatoes, and baked beans. The recipe comes from a 1967 "scene-makers cook book" called Singers & Swingers in the Kitchen. A few things: first, yeah, it's the cold medicine and coffee mixture that led to me posting this, and two, we absolutely need a version of this for the current music world. I want to know all about Bieber's brats and Jesse Lacey's "Sic Transit Pulled Pork."
It's already almost Thanksgiving, where the hell did this year go? Well, as the year is winding down we're beginning to think of our favorite albums of 2013 and that means we're collecting lists from bands, staff, and industry folk to include in our yearly feature (related: our 2012 feature). If you're in a band, work for a label, or are involved in the industry -- we want to feature your favorite albums of the year in our end of the year database. We've made it super simple again this year: just email us your lists to this address and make sure you make it clear who the list is for (if you're in a band, is it a band list, or is it an individual band member list? If you work at a record...
Lyle McKeany, formerly of Pressure 4-5, has written a blog post about how expensive it can be to tour. The break-down of expenses is definitely on the high-end -- so it's not exactly your average band, but you get the idea.
Tenacious D sings the truth, touring is fuckin’ hard. It’s incredibly fun and gave me a lifetime of stories. But it’s not easy. Not only is it physically draining due to long hours and not enough sleep, but it is financially draining, as well.
Dylan, of course, was at the vanguard of the artistic wing of the Civil Rights movement, so it may seem impossible that anyone could accuse him of such a thing. But the Croatian group appears not to have appreciated comments made in Rolling Stone’s cover interview of Dylan from this September.
Today we're bringing you a song from The Rocket Summer's upcoming Christmas EP. The song is called "Grapevine Christmas Eve" and can be streamed in the replies. Basically, the idea behind the EP was that Bryce gave himself three days to write the songs - the record all of it himself in a little over a week and a half. Bryce commented to me that he's really proud of it and that it "couldn't sound further from my newer stuff," so be on the lookout for that next year. The EP comes out on December 3rd via all digital retailers. And the band will be playing two Christmas shows on December 18th in California, and December 20th in Dallas.
