From now until December 2nd, the city of Boston is calling on local talent to submit music to be its hold music for the city's 24-hour hotline.
Musicians are encouraged to send in links to their original music to city officials at the DoIT Twitter and Facebook pages with the #BOStunes hashtag, allowing Boston city hall to create a new "transfer music playlist." So far, Bostonians seem happy to oblige: a handful of musicians have already taken to Twitter to submit their Soundcloud and Bandcamp tracks.

Rolling Stone have posted the final interview with Lou Reed.
The conversation Reed shared with director Farida Khelfa was part of a photo shoot for Parrot ó Reed had offered his sonic expertise to the company, adjusting the balance of the Parrot Zik headphones so they'd be better suited for rock. In the quite significant footage from that day just a month before his death at age 71, Reed appears gaunt, but his mind remains razor sharp. Explaining why he became a musician, Reed said, "You do what you love... or you get arrested." Asked if his father bought him his first guitar, Reed spat back, "My father didn't give me shit."

Annie Clark (St. Vincent) recently reviewed Arcade Fire's latest album, Reflektor, for The Talkhouse - the same site that featured the late Lou Reed raving over Yeezus and Ezra Koenig's (Vampire Weekend) goofy take on Nothing Was The Same.
The Arcade Fire have released an album that elucidates our constant psychic vacillation between uber-connection and utter disconnection. They ask you to be aware of your fractured attention span/psyche/in touch with your humanity. Arcade Fire so mercifully avoid the Nuremberg-rock cliches ("Hey!") in favor of sleaze, anxiety, and pathos that you can dance to.

Trigger warning: Sexual assault discussed very bluntly. A guest-post on PutYourDamnPantsOn alleges that the author was sexually assaulted 16 years ago by the lead singer of The Casualties.
When I came out that next morning, 16 years ago, the band was gone, my wallet was stolen, and I was left a shirt by the band as if it were some sort of consolation prize. The irony of the bandís name, and me being a CASUALTY in my own right, was not lost on me. All these years later and every time I write those words, speak them, re-live them, I choke back vomit. I remember how The Singer smelled, tasted, his jagged rotten teeth, his worn leather skin, how the band argued about not cutting their hair...

PropertyOfZack is reporting on a new A Day To Remember and Victory Records case development that alleges the band paid John Janick (at the time of Fueled By Ramen) a sum of $450,000 over a period of four years as a manager to the band. However, the court has ruled that Janick was not acting as a manager and that means a variety of things for the case, including that Janick can now be deposed. You can read a rundown of the case here and view the latest document (sent in by Tony of Victory Records) here.

I worked with AP.net user John Boles (Align in Time), you may have seen him around the site, to post an interview with Matthew Healy from The 1975. It's worth grabbing a beer, tossing on their latest album, and reading straight through.
I kind of became a parody of myself. All of these elements of my personality that Iíve spoken about on the record were being validated by people really liking it, so I was becoming more and more like that, an excuse to be at my most, you know, polarizing and my personality, that was being endorsed by those people, and itís even more like that now. If I wanted to, I could become more and more and more like myself; Iím very aware of that, Iím very aware...

Earlier this week, NPR asked if musics reviews matter to listeners. So let's pose the question here: do you still read reviews every day? Do you read them to get a different view point on what your listening to? Do you check them out to generate a conversation?
These days, I'm not so sure negative reviews have as much of an effect. If someone wants to know whether or not they like a record, they'll probably just listen to it online somewhere. It really depends on the band and where it is in its lifespan. A stellar, four- or five-star review for a new or emerging artist could be huge for them. It looks good in press releases and ads. Pull quotes end up on album cover stickers, and the...
