Reports are coming in that Kanye West punched a racist-epithet-hurling 18-year-old in a chiropractor's office earlier today.
Kim Kardashian was visiting a Beverly Hills medical facility earlier today, and she had to get through a scrum of paparazzi to get there. According to the story, an 18-year-old bystander approached Kim and said, "Fuck these fa**ot-ass n****rs." When Kim told him not to use this particular term, the guy responded, "Fuck you, bitch. Just trying to help you. Shut up, n****r lover, stupid slut." When Kanye arrived, he and Kim went into the office — a chiropractor’s office, it turns out — where Kim had scene [sic] the guy enter after his outburst. The story says that...

Allison Weiss has launched a tour shop, offering a creative way for fans to receive a unique item from the road.
For a small band, tour is necessary, tour is life, and tour is expensive. In 2011, I started what would later become Tour Shop with the hope of making a little extra gas money, but it became more than that. I wanted to offer something special to those who cared enough to keep me going. Each Tour Shop support level includes all previous levels, and everything is packed and shipped by yours truly. Everything is personal, everything is unique. This year I'll be collecting postcards, taking photos, hunting down souvenirs, and curating a poster series. Help put a little gas in my...

A previously unreleased song by Johnny Cash can be heard here.
It seems the Man In Black recorded an album called Out Among The Stars with "countrypolitan" producer Billy Sherrill in the mid-’80s, but Columbia dropped him soon afterwards and the album never came out. Cash’s son John Carter Cash found the master tapes in 2012, and it’s getting a proper release this March. “She Used To Love Me A Lot” was handpicked by John as the lead single.

I received this message this morning: "I've been writing for 10 years. I work a shitty job to try and pay for a record I'm about to make and can't afford. Please help me with a post, or anything, I just want to be heard. - Steve Van Tine" -- and maybe it's because I'm riding a caffeine high and feeling sentimental -- but it worked. Here you go Steve, check the replies for the video of "You're Not Bob Dylan."

What does beer and a little extra time on my hands equal? A lengthier write-up on some of my thoughts on the current state of the music industry and how we're currently in the new normal. If you've got some time, I'd love if you'd check it out.
This is also indicative of an old school media mentality — the idea that everything in music should be a blockbuster or relatively dismissed. You see this in the movie industry as well — the machine is too large to be nimble in the face of change and each cycle is so expensive that anything but “blockbuster” status isn’t profitable. But, I ask, what’s wrong with going underground and developing a niche audience? What is wrong with making that the...

After wanting to throw my computer against a wall when Logic Pro X stopped doing what I needed it to last week, I was finally able to get it working and put together our latest episode of the AbsolutePunk.net Podcast. This week's episode has booking agent Dave Shapiro from The Agency Group joining Zack and I. The conversation centers around what role a booking agent plays in a band's career and a lot of what goes on behind the scenes with bands and tours. Plus, I get to ask "who first came up with the idea for that bury the hatchet tour?" ... and then make snarky marketing department jokes. Good times all around and a really informative episode. The episode can be streamed and/or...

Beyonce has written an essay titled, "Gender Equality is a Myth!" for the Shriver Report.
We need to stop buying into the myth about gender equality. It isn't a reality yet. Today, women make up half of the U.S. workforce, but the average working woman earns only 77 percent of what the average working man makes. But unless women and men both say this is unacceptable, things will not change. Men have to demand that their wives, daughters, mothers and sisters earn more—commensurate with their qualifications and not their gender. Equality will be achieved when men and women are granted equal pay and equal respect.
