Tony Visconti recently sat down with Rolling Stone to discuss David Bowie's forthcoming album ★ (pronounced Blackstar) and how they were heavily influenced by Kendrick Lamar, that it features James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem) and a jazz quartet fronted by Donny McCaslin helped the process. Watch the video for the title track in the replies.
"We were listening to a lot of Kendrick Lamar. We wound up with nothing like that, but we loved the fact Kendrick was so open-minded and he didn’t do a straight-up hip-hop record. He threw everything on there, and that’s exactly what we wanted to do. The goal, in many, many ways, was to avoid rock & roll."

Frank Turner has ranked his albums for Noisey.
First off, Frank Turner tells me, “let me get it out there that I think pitting records against each other is deeply immoral and like choosing between your children and all that shit.” That said, if he had to rank them, which we forced him to, he’d definitely single out his new album, Positive Songs for Negative People, as his favorite. The album, his sixth, feels more whole, more focused, more meticulously arranged, he says.

Big news out of the Modern Baseball camp today. The band have released a surprise 6-song EP with Lame-O Records, The Perfect Cast, in advance of their recently recorded third album, releasing in 2016 through Run For Cover Records titled Holy Ghost. You can read a feature with the band, and hear the EP in its entirety, on Spin.
Lukens’ changed schedule over his health concerns resulted in the group switching up their usual recording process, writing songs in the studio and then piecing them together with the whole band, rather than Lukens and Ewald composing together ahead of time.

“We've observed our audience all around the world and noticed that something is happening. People want to be pushed to do good, or to be good, or just to feel good. We wanted a very intense video, that felt like banging your head against the wall, focusing on our audience: a portrait of our crowd, an homage to music lovers and the good people who are coming to gigs and shouting their lungs out, or just smiling at the back. We were touched by them every night, and wanted to get their message out there: loud guitar music is still...
