As I'm sure many of you felt after reading the news of young Leelah Alcorn taking her own life, my heart sank. I felt sick. Yet another young life gone because of not being heard, not being understood, and not being unconditionally loved for who they truly were. After hearing her story, and reading her final Tumblr post, I finally felt it was time to share this song.
Physically entering the rehab facility was one of the most terrifying yet rewarding things I have ever done. Getting onstage and playing in front of tens of thousands of people used to be the most frightening thing for me, but getting the help I knew I needed made that look relaxing. During my 31 plus days of treatment, I learned a lot about myself and a lot about what I needed to do to never go back down that path I had been stumbling upon.
Gerard Way did an AMA with Reddit earlier this week. All of his answers can be found here.
Wow! I'm so glad that helped in figuring out your gender identity. I have always been extremely sensitive to those that have gender identity issues as I feel like I have gone through it as well, if even on a smaller scale. I have always identified a fair amount with the female gender, and began at a certain point in MCR to express this through my look and performance style. So it's no surprise that all of my inspirations and style influences were pushing gender boundaries. Freddy Mercury, Bowie, Iggy, early glam, T-Rex. Masculinity to me has always made me feel like it wasn't right for me. It was...
Way elaborates: “In a futurist city fairly different from the New York we are familiar with, our version of Spider-Man takes the shape of a government project: SP//dr. SP//dr is comprised of three vital components: a pilot, a machine, and a radioactive sentient spider acting as one half of the brain that makes it all work. Peni Parker is a young girl, who, left parentless, is adopted by her Aunt May and Uncle Ben, the two heads of the SP//dr project. When they realize Peni is the only one who can successfully pair with SP//dr, they make the unorthodox decision to train her as SP//dr's newest pilot.”
Gerard Way recently sat down with NME to talk about his first live shows as a solo artist, what to expect, playing My Chemical Romancesongs as part of his solo project and how he looks forward to Reading and Leeds. Check out the video in the replies.
"There was a moment when I was weighing up the options and it just didn't feel like the right time yet to play any My Chemical Romance songs. I didn't feel this strong urge to do it, you know? I also wouldn't want to false advertise, I don't think it's the kind of thing I'm going to be doing a lot, so I wouldn't want to come out for the first show and play any because then I think it would be kind of expected."
The definitive biography of post–hardcore rock band My Chemical Romance, based on exclusive, unpublished interviews by the journalist who knew the band best. My Chemical Romance is the Nirvana of the post–hardcore generation. As the most significant band in alternative rock on both sides of the Atlantic for the past decade, My Chemical Romance has sold five million albums and played to packed arenas worldwide. In March 2013, their sudden break–up shocked the industry and made headline news in top music...
“I got sick physically and mentally because I didn’t listen to what my inner self said…” Which was? “Which was when Parade was over, that’s the end. I always said that to myself and I had been relatively vocal about saying that around the rest of the band. I plan things out pretty far in advance. I sat down with a piece of paper before Bullets came out and I wrote. I wrote down titles of records, what they were going to be like and what they were going to accomplish for the band.”...

Gerard Way debuted "Action Cat" earlier this week and there were some comments about how the vocals sounded "buried" in the mix -- while the merits of if it works are definitely up for the debate, Gerard has clarified on Twitter that it's exactly the sound he was going for. Personally, I'm always interested in seeing an artist's thoughts on choices made in recording that listeners react negatively too. I feel like we usually go into a listening session with the assumption that if something sounds "off" or "wrong" that it's a mistake and rarely do we focus on why that choice may have been made intentionally.
