Dustin Kensrue has posted a blog about why his upcoming Christmas EP will be out under The Modern Post moniker.
My hope is that moving forward this division of brands will help to make things less confusing as I hope to continue writing and releasing music under my name (and am currently recording a record in that sense) and also to writing and release more records that are followups to TW&TB. With all of this in mind, I decided to release this current EP under The Modern Post primarily because, while it does contain some classic Christmas carols, one of the primary purposes in recording it was to serve local churches with new arrangements of these songs.

Dustin Kensrue has entered the studio and is currently recording the long anticipated follow-up to his 2007 solo debut, Please Come Home.
“Recording right now is for me the end of a long distilling process,” said Kensrue. “I always have bits and pieces of songs that are bouncing around in my head. I usually record them and listen back later, and most of the time I can’t remember why I even bothered to record them in the first place. But then there are the tunes that stick – the ones I find running over and over through my head, demanding to be finished. Begging for a home. The most persistent of these tunes from the past 8 years are what I’m busy recording right now, and there’s...

Riley Breckenridge (Thrice) has posted a new track, "Black Death." Check it out in the replies.
I was presented with an opportunity to write some music for a particular beverage company that was looking for something dark, moody and timeless, yet modern (which is totally contradictory, but whatever ... 'tis the nature of the beast). So, I wrote this. It wasn't picked up, but I'm still kinda happy with it and wish you all could see what I was scoring when I wrote this. (it'd make more sense in context.) I think it's still OK as a standalone track, but out of context, I can see how it might be tough to digest. Figured I might as well share it, rather than having it rot on a hard drive...

While we posted earlier about Dustin Kensrue's AMA on Reddit, we didn't specifically call out that he mentions a good possibility of Thrice writing music together and touring again. I feel like that should be mentioned.
Tour of some kind: very very likely. Recording of some kind: I hope so and suspect yes.

Teppei Teranishi (Thrice) was recently interviewed about his leather goods brand Teranishi, but the interview also touches on some history of the band.
Yeah, it's hard. Touring is hard. That's why we stopped. Pretty much to be able to sustain yourself as a band nowadays, they only way to do it is to tour. I have three kids now. Dustin, our singer, has three kids. It's a different season of life. It was kind of time to stop doing that for a while and focus on different things. But it was hard. It's been really, really, really nice to be home. Even more than that, when I was home for more than a year writing or recording, it was always in the back of your head that you're leaving again....

Dustin Kensrue blogged about why he opted to write a worship record and how it differs from previous songwriting efforts. His new record, The Water & The Blood, is available today.
I understand that in this form, these truths might have a glare to them that could be unpleasant for some at first glance. But I would encourage anyone who has been challenged or provoked by my songs in the past to listen to the new album in light of the framework I’ve outlined above.

Riley Breckenridge (Thrice) is starting a new band called Puig Destroyer. It’s a baseball-themed grindcore project featuring Mike Minnick (Curl Up & Die) on vocals, Ian Miller and Jon Howell (Kowloon Walled City) and Riley (Thrice) doing drum programming.
We’ve got basic tracking done for our debut EP, and we should have a track from said EP fairly soon. Please stay tuned for updates/tunes. The roughs I’ve heard are ridiculously awesome and fun and raw as all hell.

Kinda like Yasiel Puig.

We’re all very excited an hope that you are too.
