Modest Mouse's Isaac Brock did an interview in Poland in which he had some pretty messed up things to say about Portland -- his current hometown (disclosure: and where I've lived most of my life). Pretty sure this means he's going to leave us for the San Antonio Spurs too.
Portland is weird, but it's kind of a crappy weird. It is the most vagrant-ridden [city]óit's really fuckin' up my liberal mind. I'm just like, what a collection of human turds.

Jonathan Valania of BuzzFeed conducted a pretty fantastic in-depth, longform interview with Modest Mouse that covers the eight-year gap between albums, the death of frontman Isaac Brock's brother, and some of the myths surrounding Brock's life.
If you want to experience it for yourself, you really need to go to Portland. Once you arrive, proceed directly to the Ice Cream Party, a three-level mid-century modern structure situated in Portlandís Goose Hollow neighborhood in the shadow of Providence Park soccer stadium that serves as recording studio, rehearsal hall, storage space, living quarters, and band hangout ó it is, in short, Modest Mouseís Batcave. As instructed, you type in the...

Emily Zemler, writing for Relix, talks with Modest Mouse about their new album.
Ultimately, the reason Modest Mouse didnít spit out a new record three years ago is because the songs just werenít fully developed yet. The musicians didnít enter into the new music with any sort of intention or vision in mind, instead allowing the music to create itself along the way. In the early stages, Brock found himself interested in a certain type of song that he eventually dismissed.
