Ringo Starr's personal copy of the Beatles' The White Album, numbered No.0000001, sold for a world record $790,000 Saturday at the Julien's Live auction of instruments and items from Starr and wife Barbara Bach's estate. Starr's White Album carried a pre-auction estimate of $40,000 to $60,000, a number that was easily shattered during bidding.

A GoFundMe page has been set up for Jeff Rosenstock.
Thank you for reaching out and saying you'd like to help us. We are lucky people. We get to travel the world and play music. We are alive. We are blessed with a lot of wonderful people who we get to call friends.

But yeah, our luck ran the fuck out today. Our van got broken into... all our guitars, pedals, cymbals, hardware, and clothing got stolen. I've been on the phone with the SF police department for about an hour itemizing all of the shit that got jacked, and I'm pretty sure they just lost the list (edit: yes, they lost the list.)

Big Joanie have launched an Indiegogo campaign to fund their next release.
Big Joanie have only existed for just under two years but in that time we played to packed shows across London and earned a name for ourselves as a black feminist punk band. We would like to make more of an impact outside London across the UK and hopefully in the future in Europe and America. Hopefully through funding this 7" we will be able to tour more widely and become more accessible to young black punks who haven't be able to find out about us yet.

According to the New York Times, Pandora has purchased Ticketfly.
Pandora announced early Wednesday that it would acquire Ticketfly for $450 million, in a mix of cash and stock. The deal further expands Pandora’s interests in providing services to artists. Last year, it introduced a data system, the Artist Marketing Platform, or AMP, that shows musicians which songs are most popular on the service and where. And in May, Pandora bought Next Big Sound, another data service, which studies the listening and online searching patterns of streaming music customers.

Collect Records have severed ties with Martin Shkreli.
Today, Collect Records — with the support and encouragement of all of our artists — have agreed to fully sever our relationship with Martin Shkreli, effective immediately.

When I decided to get into business with Martin, we took him on as a patron. He was completely silent and allowed us to do business as we pleased. His only ask was that we sign bands that we believed could make great art given the right environment and not to focus on a profit, no matter how dire the bottom line.

Never in a million years did any of us expect to wake up to the news of the scandal that he is now involved in. It blindsided and upset us on every...

Dan Buckley, formerly of the band Peace Mercutio, details how the band spent over 50k dollars trying to make it in the music industry.
$51,573.42?! As I was writing this it was difficult for me to look at these numbers now 5 years later and see how irresponsible and ignorant I was. All of the band expenses were on top of my living expenses including school debt and personal loan payments totalling around $48,000. During the course of three years, I’d spent more money on the band than on my own living expenses. I could write an entire post breaking down the mistakes in my spending, and I will comment on it more in a later post, but for now, I’m going to focus on a lesson that was very...

Square has launched a new feature as part of their Cash app called "$Cashtags." The basic idea is that you can register a tag (kind of like a username) and then anyone can send you cash directly to that tag. The blog post announcing this feature talks about how the company envisions this being a great way for artists to collect money, tips, and things like that. Bands, labels, and artists may want to register their names if you think you're ever going to use the service. And, if you'd like to send me some money to go buy beer and fast-food, you can do that at $chorus.
We think $Cashtags are a fantastic marketing service that lets your customers, donors, fans, or even friends pay you...

A documentary about Luxury is up for funding on Kickstarter.
Sounding like Fugazi or Shudder to Think fronted by a younger, more vicious Morrissey, they were an anomaly, in Toccoa, or almost anywhere. They brought together such disparate influences that one could barely imagine them co-existing in a band, much less pulling it off as a thoroughly distinctive sound. The English melodicism laid on top of such pummeling instrumentation was a study in contrasts, but it was of a piece, as there was enough of the melodic in the instruments and enough brutality in the lyrics and vocal delivery that it hung together, just so. As singer, Lee Bozeman describes it, "I write these beautiful, nice...

Many of us have no idea what it's like to be thirsty. We have plenty of water to drink - even the water in our toilets is clean! But many people around the world don’t have that luxury. Every day, 1,400 kids die from water-related illnesses before they reach their fifth birthday. But it doesn’t have to be that way. There are simple solutions like drilled wells, spring protections and BioSand Filters that help provide clean water to communities around the world. We, NEVER SHOUT NEVER, have started this fundraising campaign to help CHARITYWATER build these types of...
