You all liked the first song from The Money Pit, right? (You know, the ex-Gatsbys American Dream dudes.) Hit the replies to stream another new one titled "Killing Time in Hawaii." Seriously, though ... fuck that shit.
We toyed with the idea of calling this new project Gatsbys, because it very well could be a Gatsbys album, but everyone is just doing too many things [for a reunion to happen]. We tried to reform like five years ago; we set up a website and said we were coming out with a record. It was such a huge disappointment to us, and Iím sure certain people were bummed, too. It made us look really shitty; I felt really bad about the whole thing. Bobby got really sick in the meantime, and a lot of shit went down. We talked about doing this as Gatsbys, but I just donít think itís going to...
Kirk Huffman of Gatsbys American Dreamrecently started a new band, Real Don Music. He is playing his first show on tomorrow, August 17th, at The Barboza in Seattle, WA. He will also be playing a show in Los Angeles on September 16th, opening for Dia Frampton. His song "Emeralds and Angels" is available on iTunes. You can hear another new song called "Smoke By Day" in the replies.
One of the bands mentioned quite a bit in our "Chinese Democracy" thread yesterday was Gatsbys American Dream. In one of those "it just works out that way" kind of moments, I was able to talk to the band today and get an update on their future plans. They have booked time in the studio, and are planning to begin tracking again very soon. There was a medical issue that popped up last year and kind of derailed everything. But, it looks like everything is back on track ... and there should be some new music coming our way this year.
Overdue Collection Agency, the label that is pressing the Gatsby's American Dream albums Why We Fight, Ribbons and Sugar, and In the Land of Lost Monsters, is experiencing financial difficulties and has put out a call for investors and/or publicity.
After yesterday's Gatsbys American Dream SXSW set, I spoke with Kirk Huffman about when we can expect to see new material released. The band has four songs done, and they are shooting for eight. Nothing is being forced to a deadline, and the label and band want things to happen naturally. The plan is to release something by the end of the year through Equal Vision. Hit the replies to see yesterday's set list.
The kickstarter for Gatsbys American Dream only has 55 hours left. A little under $2,500 is needed to finish covering the expenses for the vinyl. To help raise money, Overdue Collection Agency are selling some of their vinyl collection on ebay. Go tell your friends and bid on some items!
The $5,500 dollar goal to get Why We Fight and Ribbons and Sugar pressed on vinyl has been met in just 11 days. But, that only covers the vinyl being pressed, that doesn't include any of the other costs that go along with vinyl. Be sure to keep spreading the word and sending out the kickstarter to everyone. The more money that is raised, the more that gets donated to www.water.org.
Gatsbys American Dream's Land of Lost Monsters EP will be pressed on vinyl. Also the goal of $5,500 dollars to get Why We Fight and Ribbons and Sugar pressed has almost been met, so keep spreading the word!
Tiger! Tiger! has posted a new song on their myspace called "Tralfamadore," which features guest vocals by Nic Newsham (ex-Gatsby's American Dream). The band's new album, I'll Still Be There When You're Ready For It, was also produced by Forgive Durden's Thomas Dutton.
