“[There was a] period where we were a little bit on autopilot because we were touring so much, and it started to become routine to an extent. Now, it’s like “whoa.” I’ve been in this band 13 years,” Taylor continues, “and we’re still doing this, and we’re not getting any younger and you just really try and enjoy every moment you can. Go out, wander the city. You’re travelling around the earth right now. Go out and enjoy that. Don’t just sit in a room and stare at your phone. For me that’s been the biggest thing, exploring what I’m lucky enough to be able to do.”...
Also, for those inquiring about MCS album release dates and why we were only playing this city instead of that city and so forth and so on... Well, Max is the reason. I wanted to make sure she was actually here and ok before I made any formal announcement.
Before the show, we had decided that I would join them onstage for the last song of the night, “My Favorite Accident”. Which is probably the song that I have played the most in my life. I’m not sure we ever DIDN’T play that song. Plus we sound checked with it often. I should be sick of it. But it felt like the right song. When the time came, I was actually pretty excited to go and do it. It wasn’t announced, no one in the audience knew I was going to play. I won’t lie, it was an ego boost. The reaction when I came out felt really nice. I was truly touched....
Motion City Soundtrack are playing the House of Blues in Dallas this Sunday (2/8), and before the show they're doing a cool fan event at the local brewery, Deep Ellum Brewery. Matt and Jesse will be at the brewery from 1pm to 3pm and if you're 21 and over you can meet up with them and maybe have a few beers. If you live in Dallas and want to go to the show (and don't have tickets yet), I've got a pair to give away. Let me know your favorite beer and what MCS song it goes best with in the replies and I'll pick a winner.
Motion City Soundtrack is currently in the middle of its Commit This To Memory 10-year tour, and I was lucky enough to catch last week's show in New York City. In the replies you can read my review of the show, as well as some thoughts on how valuable it is to be able to view these old albums in a new light. Feel free to discuss the band's performance if you've already been to the tour as well!
