The only clarification we've seen from the Sum 41 camp on if Dave Baksh has joined the band again as a permanent member is a response on Facebook reading, "all options are open right now" and "there's no yes or no answer to that."

Sum 41 have launched a PledgeMusic for their new album.
Words canít describe how good it feels to be back, so Iíll just let the music do that instead. Itís been a crazy few years for all of us in one way or another, but with this much needed break and a new lease on life Sum 41 is back and stronger and more excited than we have been in a long time. Itís time to make a fucking great record!

Deryck Whibley has released an alternate version to Sum 41's "Open Your Eyes."
i have a whole stock pile of old sum 41 stuff saved in storage. versions of songs that never got used, old demos, unreleased tracks etc. i found something the other day that i had forgotten about. this was the original version for the song open your eyes. it has a shorter first chorus and a different guitar solo. this was the way i intended the song to be but somehow it got changed in the studio along the way. i ended up using this solo in a different song later on, but i always liked this version and i still do

Sum 41's Deryck Whibley posted a demo of their song "Crash" on his site along with a write-up about its origin.
i was going through my old cassette tapes of ideas today and i came across the original demo of the song ďcrashĒ. this recording was made about an hour after i witnessed a horrible car crash where one of the drivers was killed instantly. it all happened right before my eyes. i was the first one there and jumped out of my car immediately trying to help but i could feel the lifelessness in the air, you could just tell he was dead and there was nothing i could do. iíve seen a few people die in front of me in my life and itís definitely a bizarre moment to see the life being taken...

In a new interview with Kerrang, Deryck Whibley (Sum 41) talks about how Iggy Pop and Tommy Lee have been helping him with advice in regard to his sobriety.
"Now I'm sober, I don't get calls from certain people that I used toÖ the drinking friends," Whibley said. "Now I'm the bum-out to them. Who wants to invite the sober guy to the party? Y'know who has been incredibly supportive? Iggy Pop. He had a lot of great advice; he's been through it all. We've been friends for years."

Deryck Whibley of Sum 41 recently sat down for an interview with Geoff Nixon at CBCNews:
"When everything that happened to me after years and years of drinking so much, I never realized that I was taking it that far, I never realized that I would end up in the hospital like that," he said. "I just wanted our fans to know that it can happen to you, too, if youíre not careful."

Today Sum 41's Deryck Whibley dropped the "Lavigne" from his name - which he secretly got added on after marrying pop star Avril Lavigne in 2006. A judge granted the name change recently, as reported here.
The rockerís request to drop Avrilís name was stamped on Thursday. As we first revealed, Whibley had secretly taken her name during their 2006 marriage Ö to become Deryck Jason Lavigne Whibley. Deryckís name change was filed a few months after Lavigne married Nickelback frontman Chad Kroger Ö which is probably not a coincidence. The fact Deryck has a new fiancťe probably influenced the change too.

Brian Diaz, formerly of The Reunion Show and a long time tour manager, wrote up a great blog about Deryck Whibley of Sum 41.
The party animal in me loved it but it had already started to take a toll on my body after several months. I couldnít believe how far Deryck could go, though. I couldnít get myself to walk from the bus to the venue some days, and here this guy was playing shows every single night for an hour or more, sweating, running around like a maniac, and killing a bottle of whiskey. It was insanity.

Sum 41 guitar tech Brian Keith Diaz explains the band's tour cancellations due to Deryck Whibley's back issues.
Quote"This decision was not made as a snap judgement call. Doctors and others have been telling him to rest and have surgery, etc. for a long time now. But, being the way this industry is, Sum 41 has to continue touring in order to promote their record and continue making money. This isn't an arbitrary "let's just cancel a bunch of shows" decision. This puts everyone's life on hold: the guys in the band, the people who work for them, everyone... Until this unfortunate setback there were no plans to stop touring regardless of how well the record was selling, or whether...
