On a related note, who's calling Avenged Sevenfold Christian?
My thoughts are that I am a Christian and everyday I have struggles with my faith. While I enjoy alot of music that has little to no Christian overtones (Foo Fighters, Death Cab), I really enjoy listening to stuff from Sufjan Stevens and Relient K that mirrors my predicaments. I have no problem with them throwing some God or Jesus in there because I feel that if you want to hear them sing about the struggle, you should also hear about how they found peace with it. Sufjan does an excellent job of showing how his faith in something impacted him without getting schmaltzy or "ok, skip this song" about it. His songs actually make me wish I had as great a faith as he does.
Basically, I think that's what seperates a Brand New (who I love) with a Relient K. BN seems to focus alot on the turmoil, without any resolve - which is their journey, maybe there are no answers or resolutions yet. While Relient K make it pretty clear in songs like "Be My Escape" and "Death Bed" that they've come to terms through their faith. RK's earlier stuff spelled it out a little too much and was too "Jesus"-y for my taste, but I respect where they were coming from.
I would agree that I'd rather not have a band preach to me if I went to their shows. But if they want to say something about what got them through a rough patch, cool. It's no different than the band saying how much they love beer on stage - yea that's nice, not really my taste, let's hear some more jams.
