In Fall Out Boy you would seem to have the best of both worlds. You're fairly anonymous, you probably get recognized a lot less than the average frontman who's sold as many records as you have. Or was it too much anonymity?

Dunno why, but that question pissed me off, good interview though, can't wait to here the album.

notfallingapart 04/24/10 04:57 PM

Nice interview.

Moritz421 04/24/10 04:58 PM

Excited to hear his solo stuff

albatrossflyer 04/24/10 05:01 PM

not really a ton of new info. i'm just itching to get some of the music at this point, i think i've heard him talk about it enough.

the one thing that stood out to me was that he said that it wouldn't be a rock record. not that it was surprising or anything, but i guess it means his album will be more different from fob than i thought it would be. i was kind of assuming that it would be generally going in the same direction that fob's albums had been heading, away from punk for sure, but still maintaining a rock feel in the general sense.

It bugged me too cause anyone can recognize him, but I get that he meant that Pete Wentz was the most famous and known FOB member.

Also, can't wait to hear some actual music instead of more interviews

Yellowcard2006 04/24/10 05:11 PM

I'm very stoked to hear these songs

TSLROCKS 04/24/10 05:14 PM

Really looking forward to the solo album

Shatter_Glass 04/24/10 05:34 PM

When's this solo record coming out?

zachff 04/24/10 05:39 PM

No date announcement on the solo record yet, but fuck me if FOB never reunites.

falloutpanicboy 04/24/10 05:40 PM

this interview really didn't say anything new. i hoped that he would have at least given some sort-of time firm of when we can't expect the album to come out. although if my memory is correct i remember him telling MTV, i think it was, that the solo album will be mixed in May.

the seventeenth 04/24/10 05:47 PM

I can think of other bands where the lead singer wasn't really the main guy, the focus of the attention.
Wentz (obviously).
Good interview but nothing was really new, wished he would have talked more about touring; it would be nice to have heard him say he was going to play a show or two down east as a solo performer and not in FOB.

iden22 04/24/10 05:48 PM

The first teaser video was pretty sweet, so I wouldn't mind seeing a new one soon. Can't wait to hear the new songs.

sammyboy516 04/24/10 05:56 PM

is he gonna pull a McCoy and go by "Pat Stump" or "Patti Stump" on this record?

/bad joke.

Really?

I don't get recognized at all. I'm not used to getting recognized. It really is a unique position. There's certainly not a lot of solo artists in that situation. I can think of other bands where the lead singer wasn't really the main guy, the focus of the attention. But I can't think of a lot of times where that guy then goes off and does a solo record. I think I have the good fortune of seeing [fame] happen to someone else very close to me ... so I think I have a very good handle on it.

JulieLynn 04/24/10 06:20 PM

I still don't know how to feel about any of this. I canrt listen to a single FOB song without getting a little pissed off. Hopefully Patrick comes through and his album will be just what I need.

Totally agreed--what's more, I welcome the change. FOB, while ever inventive as they are, were kind of due for a break, this is perfect for him. Can't wait.

I feel like he probably doesn't wear a hat in public and that's the reason that people don't come up to him all the time haha.

Yeah it will.

Would you ever make a solo record you have a killer voice :D

aerofan11 04/24/10 07:58 PM

He's very modest. Patrick, FOB were not a "somewhat popular band", they were stupidly popular.

Still can't wait for his new stuff. We need some new teasers or demos, to hear how it's going. ;-)

inreverie 04/24/10 08:01 PM

What's lame is that the conflict between Pete's lyrics and Pat's R and B instincts is probably why they were so awesome. It's gonna be like and audio PB and J without the Peanut Butter. Still tasty, but not quite filling.

G apostrophe Ra 04/24/10 08:05 PM

I understand that Patrick is modest, and I understood his point about rock music not being his go-to sound, but he's crazy to say that he's "not that comfortable" with rock music. You can't write 4 full-length rock records- two of which are platinum sellers- and claim that you aren't comfortable with rock music. I mean damn, if those aren't sufficient credentials for being a formidable rock songwriter, practically no one qualifies ha ha.

robat19 04/24/10 08:37 PM

Anxious to hear his solo stuff. Hope it's not disappointing.

Ryan Gardner 04/24/10 08:48 PM

Very excited for his album

deFobbed14yrs 04/24/10 08:54 PM

i would recognize him in a heartbeat he should head over to new york

Haha I love how modest and like...nervous Patrick is. He's always been like that in the interviews I've seen. He seems like such a nice, genuine guy. Anyways, I'm really really excited for the new stuff. He seems so happy, which kind of makes me sad. I hope he doesn't have a feeling like FOB was holding him back or something. And the part where he said "I don't think about the future of FOB" made me sad. I really hope they get back together, they are my favorite band. =/

Well yeah obviously not everyone, but he's not completely unknown...Pete Wentz is just more known cause of Ashlee Simpson, but he's pretty recognizable...he's just not as famous as Pete...but him and Pete are the most known FOB members. Whatever I guess that's just my opinion...I think he was just being humble in the interview...I don't know really

Doubt it, I'll bet not many people recognize him.

that was a nice interview. can't wait to hear his solo stuff :)

You read the interview, right? He just doesn't feel completely at home in that genre as an artist.

Also, I think that the only people who truly *matter* are those who could potentially recognize Patrick. not trying to be an elitist, but, still.

I am excited to hear his record - can't wait.
Hopefully after all of this is over and done with, FOB will get back together?

That whole line of questioning about "people couldn't recognize you even at the height of Fall Out Boy's popularity" was ridiculous. Of course they could. That being said, how many people would recognize the other non-Bono members of U2 if they were in front of them at the supermarket, or the non Chris Martin members of Coldplay?

Natesavestheday 04/25/10 08:42 AM

I think this is what everyone in FOB needed. I don't think Patrick feels comfortable in the "emo" tween rock genre anymore and feels the need to mature as an artist. Plus I think the rest of the guys started to miss their old hardcore days......nevertheless, still excited for Patrick's solo stuff

great post, I agree completely and exactly what I wanted to say...

SuchAPerson22 04/25/10 11:23 AM

As excited as I am for Patrick, it makes me a little upset that he says he isn't comfortable with the "rock atmosphere" or whatever it was. I mean, Fall Out Boy was and still is a great band with rock roots, and he was a part of that for years. I don't know. It would make me the happiest person ever if they get back together, but I, in no way, want to take away from Patrick's solo experience right now.

with the millions of fans that are completely obsessed with FOB, I'm pretty sure a ton of people recognize him. He just doesn't go out in public and get mobbed by paparazzi like Pete, so people probably just don't know he's around. I'm sure there's just a lot of Patrick lovers who would be too shy to go talk to him.

Patrick needs to give himself more credit. Just because his fans don't ask him for autographs every time he's outside doesn't mean we don't LOVE him! =]
