Hey guys, like they changed a note! A whole NOTE. It's a totally different song man.

sigur ros shouldve just said yes and banked off of it. clearly the advert co wanted that type of sound for their commercial. since they couldn't get the original, they got the closest thing they legally can. and hate to break it to you, but changing notes here and there are how songs are written.

Am I going crazy or does anybody else hear Svefn-G-Englar towards the end in the new Halle Berry perfume commercial?

That is definitely Svefn-G-Englar.

Google turned up nothing when I searched. I'm surprised no one else heard the similarities.

That's the most blatant one, the bass line is almost identical.

It sounds to me like it IS Svefn-G-Englar rather than similiar, but I could be wrong. I'm in the UK so I've never seen the ad. If it is Sigur Ros, that's pretty lame.

I've seen this happen to various bands in all sorts of commercials. The song sounds exactly the same they just changed one chord so it's technically not plagiarism. Crazy.

I haven't seen the ad on tv, either. I just saw it posted around the internet a few weeks ago. The beginning sounds a bit different from Svefn-g-englar, but the rest is pretty much the same.

Interesting. I remember Disney used Hoppípolla in a trailer for Earth sometime last year (the actual song).

I agree. I hear nothing changed at all. Listen to them at the same time and they're exactly the same. I'm sure sigur ros could use the money (we all could) why not act on this?

brooklynburning 10/03/10 11:28 AM

Criminal. At least they are aware that it goes on. Hopefully now composers will try to change two chords as opposed to one.

On another note, I could really use a new record from these guys. This Jonsi album is definitely up there in my album of the year list. Any Sigur Ros is good Sigur Ros.

From the article:

Yes, they've done movies, TV and given music to charity "synchs" (as it is called when you "synchronise" music to picture)

So that explains the use of their music in the Prince Of Persia and Planet Earth trailers

Perhaps I should have worded this better? I meant that it was ridiculous that these brands were going to such lengths for one any song, not just Hoppipolla, Fljotavik etc.
