meh, it's OK based on one listen. maybe it will grow on me.
Certainly more ambitious, but a bit overproduced. Why does every song have that "stomp, clap, stomp stomp, clap" beat thing going on? I swear the first 3 or 4 tracks have that same "epic" drum beat thing going. I liked them more when they sounded like an NFG knock-off. It was unoriginal, but fun, catchy, upbeat. This more "atmospheric" sound is a little too weak for me. also, why does the review feel the need to knock Man Overboard? granted those guys are nothing special, but c'mon now. |
Good review. Wasn't really planning on listening to this, but I think ill give it a shot now.

Great review, Drew. I was worried the record was going to get slaughtered on AP.
I am still enjoying Invitca but for different reasons than I enjoyed Skip School Start Fights |

I liked the album and the review was pretty spot on, but it could've been done without the Man Overboard comment, I don't know how it can be taken as anything but a jab at the band (who don't deserve it.)

pretty great album

My least favorite record by this band - and I love Valencia/The Graduate/I should like this record and I don't.

"it's not really a knock against Man Overboard, it's more of how a lot of those bands all sound the same now and are all interchangeable, I feel like the "Defend Pop-Punk" slogan is representative of that." |
I think I'm in the minority group of HTL fans who think Nick is a much better lead vocalist than Colin, and my favorite HTL album is Skip School, Start Fights. It's been so long since HTL released a full-length that I almost forgot they're still together. Anyway, stoked to check this out.

I loved the last paragraph. They don't have to defend anything.
