Great read--Kickstarter is a pretty cool thing when used right. I have supported a few different projects recently, and I'm glad to help out my favorite artists succeed. Plus, the prizes can be really cool too. I do agree though that I feel bad when someone doesn't meet their goal even though they tried really hard.

yeah but 5 million is significantly less that 15 million for a fledgling company.

I don't consider them fledgling anymore, I don't even know where that comparison you just made came from lol, but they have quite a few employees and offer awesome benefits so I think they're more than on their feet.

Hahahaha like the article says. They might be addicting. That's the one place in Gainesville that I take people when they want to eat something they can't eat elsewhere. I actually had a craving for it about a week before the fire, can't have it for a couple months now :-(

i agree that kickstarter is a cop out. i've used kickstarter a couple times but they were for vinyl pressings of bands

hadnt even heard of the fire until the article. that's some sad shit. always good vibes at that place.

Yeah but the good thing is that when he gets everything back in order the kitchen will have more firepower, actually will be able to cook more faster, therefore people won't wait as long, therefore leave faster, therefore make more money. Might be a blessing in disguise in the sense that he's been needing to upgrade shit, and now he is forced to.

Why do you think it's a cop out though, if fans are willing to donate money (and do donate it) then why not let the band do that?

Indeed, I also just realized I said "more faster" so that shows my writing prowess.

i mean, yeah, it's good that kids are willing to give money to the band and support them but the band should have to work for it. especially when the "rewards" are awful like 50 bucks for a skype session and a sticker isn't worth 50 bucks. if it's "too hard" for them to work jobs and have to pay for it themselves then they aren't trying hard enough. a lot of times the band is just taking advantage of the fans by giving them stupid rewards, in my opinion.

It's not worth $50 for a Skype session? Who's your favorite band? Say it's the Foo Fighters. You wouldn't pay $50 for a Skype session with Dave Grohl (that would actually probably also include the new Foo Fighters record that you just helped fund)?

for foo fighters? yeah, that'd be worth it. for someone like the classic crime that's playing smaller venues, i can talk to them after the show, if i really wanted to. so in that case, no it's not worth 50 dollars.
