The Summer Set Are Set to Write LP3 This Summer

The Summer Set will be moving into a house for the summer to begin work on their third album.

brothemighty 04/21/12 08:44 AM

We're releasing albums once a year now?

Kris_Gontz9 04/21/12 08:51 AM

Wow, it's like everyone is working on new music now... awesome stuff, really liked Love Like This and Everything's fine. Good pop tunes.

theHECKLER 04/21/12 09:22 AM

Too many bands with the "The Summer.." or "The (insert) Summer" to keep up with.

Starting the writing process in May means it probably wont see a release date until like March 2013

Sam DeBurns Red 04/21/12 09:35 AM

I guess this'll be their Summer Set up.

Acad08 04/21/12 09:49 AM

Can't wait for this. Hoping it has more of the rock/pop feel of Love Like This.

I think it'll definitely be more rock.

PengusNiugnep 04/21/12 10:32 AM

Yay.

shortymcsteve 04/21/12 10:42 AM

Reminds me how blink did their 2003 release. I wonder how this is gonna sound, hopefully more heavy! Kinda bummed i never got to see them play on Wednesday since it sold out.

mattregan 04/21/12 11:02 AM

Hopefully it doesn't suck this time!

Or NFG moving into a Malibu mansion for Coming Home haha.

Loved the first album when it came out really catchy stuff. I couldn't get into the second album though at all maybe I should give it another spin.

Same for me. For me it was all about the sequence of the songs. "About A Girl" may be the worst song to open that album with. And it definitely would have benefited from having "Crash", "Last First Kiss" and "Let The Walls Come Down" instead of songs like "Thick As Thieves", "Love To You" or "About A Girl".

guitarguy211 04/21/12 12:11 PM

I'm stoked for this--both albums have been great for their own reasons. A combo of the two would be an amazing release.

I don't know if anyone saw this, but AP put up a live session with them doing reworked versions of Thick as Thieves and When We Were Young. Link here: http://www.altpress.com/aptv/video/t...mmer_set_video

I disagree--About A Girl set the tone for the whole album. By itself it's nothing special, but in context it's the perfect opener. Thick as Thieves is also a fun song, and Love To You was alright. Of course, the b-sides were good as well.

Wow, that version of "Thick As Thieves" should've been on the album. Million times better.

MyFriendsOver 04/21/12 01:19 PM

This is usually a great method for writing...I approve!

And there's probably more. But I'm still looking forward to this release

UnderclasHero 04/21/12 03:08 PM

Summer Vacation. Only they're pretty good. You should check them out, they had a split earlier with Joyce Manor. http://summervacation.bandcamp.com/a...-w-joyce-manor

Thanks for the link! These versions are great. I kinda hope this is a preview of the direction the next album will take.

fna4 04/21/12 04:32 PM

Don't understand the love this band gets, they seem pretty generic.

plns 04/21/12 05:44 PM

I think this is the best thing for the band. Although they all live within a 15 minute drive of each other, them moving into a house together will probably influence songwriting tremendously.

I don't know if this is too much information but they will be living within a 5 minute walk of all of Jimmy Eat World's old (and some current) drinking spots so maybe location will influence the writing.

Just so I don't come off as a huge fucking creep: TSS are good friends of mine and the house they are moving into is across the street from my place.

steve187 04/21/12 06:25 PM

this band is bad

if i was in a band that's how i would want to write an album though

I know, both versions ruled. I wish there were some audio version of this somewhere so I could listen to it more. WWWY rocks so well.

If they mixed their past 2 cds and added a bit of the rock n roll sound from the reworked versions, their next cd will be so good. (Course, I kinda think that wherever they go I'll enojy it probably.)

I think there might be a few studio updates on youtube somewhere. Their video for their christmas song cover is in the house though I'm pretty sure.

jkim4007 04/21/12 11:31 PM

I can't believe people actually enjoy this band.

add The Summer Obsession to that list

francescaa 04/22/12 05:27 AM

They make some fun pop music, I'm always interested to see what they're coming out with. Hopefully this gives them a chance to dig deeper with this record and maybe surprise people a bit.

omgitsyvette 04/22/12 06:22 AM

I asked John about it in Amsterdam and he said they already had 6-ish "ideas" but that they were indeed moving into a house after this tour to fully concentrate on writing/recording etc.

He said they were working towards a combination of the last 2 albums, but it would be a more "rock" and "head-bobbing" album (although with them it's always to a certain extent).

I'm curious to see whether this album will actually grow onto me because the last one didn't really.
I just hope they won't solely focus on "combining the last two albums" but maybe try something new, I don't know.

Say Hello 87 04/22/12 09:12 AM

i think that summer is the best time to write an album for any band, you get to be at home (usually), and hangout and write and record all day long. id love that atmosphere

snowboarderkid 04/22/12 11:00 AM

I enjoy this band so i am looking forward to this release

providence36 04/22/12 11:06 AM

I never listened to these guys much but for some reason Ive had Love Like This on rotation a lot this past month. Hope the new album is more in line with that album

Nice, I know "Crash" was released but I didn't realize anyone had heard "Last First Kiss" or "Let the Walls Come Down." Good songs, and they show how diverse the band can be.
