sure it may be tuned a good amount but at least its not overly reverbed like every single shitty indie song out there now.

Completely agree. I don't understand why everyone is losing their shit over this track. It bores the hell out of me.

PIG DESTROYER 04/23/12 03:11 PM

These guys sing better than him. Maybe that's why he's bitter.

ablueskytragedy 04/23/12 03:11 PM

the "gotye" link in the description doesn't bring me anywhere

Aaaaah. I was wondering what that bit was. I dont really watch it but know there's a few gay men on it so assumed they were shagging.

There goes my theory that the creator will call Wally a homophobe

Edit: he prob will still accuse him anyway. Haha

Jake Jenkins 04/23/12 03:19 PM

Anamericangod blasting the lyrics of this song when he listens to shit with lyrics much worse. Classic.

Yea, but have you heard "I Feel Better"? It puts you in a good mood!

Thomas Nassiff 04/23/12 03:20 PM

The song is written and arranged beautifully but it's extremely simple and like Joe said, it's not like the lyrics are spectacular. It is a great vocal performance and an awesome radio song - overall an awesome song to see doing so well - but yeah, not that great and Glee didn't make it any better. Oh well at least they aren't trying to cover Springsteen anymore.

designerbandaid 04/23/12 03:21 PM

so are they gay...or are they brothers?
gay brothers?

No. He's got a fantastic voice.

butrfli1234 04/23/12 03:21 PM

I didn't think the cover was that bad. I would have been more upset about the American Idol cover though.

it's the male version of tegan and sara

the new dancer 04/23/12 03:38 PM

So they are brothers? I never watch glee so can someone inform me if they do this sort of thing often with songs? I guess if you didn't think too hard about it, the song could work for a brother battle but I would rather not defend this.

the cover isn't horrible or surprising for what glee is (I have friends who play the soundtracks constantly). so kudos to the product being just as lackluster as all the others I have heard, I guess they saw no need to raise the bar.

AMackChuck 04/23/12 03:45 PM

I recorded a cover of this song myself today. Strange.

AussieBoy 04/23/12 03:47 PM

I was singing this song in the shower today.
Strange.

seimagery 04/23/12 03:53 PM

Don't really care about that song and fuck Glee, but this song of his is brilliant imo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=le34ygtODfI. Touches upon a rare subject, the loss of a loved animal.

that fellow tends to be rather opinionated and brash, as I can be at times on this website at times, but i'll agree with the fact that glee sucks ass.

regardless of the lyrics and being very simple one can't argue its chorus is probably one of the most infectious choruses in awhile

diamondgal29 04/23/12 04:03 PM

I'm not really a fan of Glee, but I honestly didn't think it was that bad.

i dont think gotye has to be grateful.. glee wouldnt exist if musicians like gotye and others didnt let them use their songs. glee's success stems almost entirely from other people's work.

Tele72 04/23/12 04:14 PM

Not a big fan of this song and definitely not one of Glee, but I would like to point out that Gotye doesn't own the rights to their own music; their label does. While this is most likely bringing in some money, it's all through the label.

Infectious maybe, but I find that melody far more annoying than pleasant.

Complaining about lyrical melodrama on absolutepunk. Oh God. My Sides.

I wish people would realize they recorded all of those parts separately from each other then filmed it to make it look like they were playing it live.

He must be pissed at the radio edit, same vocals...shitty pop instrumental rearrangement.

Complete bullshit.

The lyrics aren't great, but I'm not sure we should compare them to something a 20-year-old college girl would write. You could have just said a 20-year-old, the girl part was a bit much. It's like you're saying that women are inferior song writers.

Where is the radio edit? YouTube? Why'd they bother. Song only goes for 4mins. How much ADD do they think people have these days

Even im pissed they made one.

Song still gives me tingles after all these months. So does Hearts a Mess from the last albun

She's the singer for The Creepshow. Pretty good band, but I think I like the stuff she does here even better. Their Karma Police cover is just awesome.

It's not really a radio edit as much as it is an edit to appeal to a wider audience. My local top 40 station does this with all the songs I bother to listen to. They even messed up Rolling in the Deep.

Gotye is entitled to his opinion on his own song and the covers/remixes associated with it. I like that he's being honest and I like that he's defending his break out single.

Lol. The song has been top ten/number one in many countries for quite some time before this show touched it.

guitarguy211 04/23/12 05:25 PM

Was I the only one who was getting a tinge of Marianas Trench from that version?

I'm not really a fan of the original...or Glee...but that version was tolerable.

Look up Gotye talks about STIUTK at splendour, or something like that and he details the recording of the song. And he says he sampled twinkle and changed a few notes. Really interesting video

It's not. It's just really cool to hate Glee.

saintnumberfive 04/23/12 05:41 PM

I liked Glee's version a lot, but there are two things about it I knew going in:

1- I really do enjoy the show a great deal, and could be biased a bit (although I'm the first to call out a song that Glee does I don't like). So a person who hates the show and the concept of it would be the first to hate on a video they saw, calling it auto-tune, which is true.
2- I knew exactly what to expect with the arrangement. The show rarely deviates from the original music with different tunes.
