Cassadee Pope Defends Her "The Voice" Audition

Cassadee Pope has defended her decision to go on "The Voice." In other news, why do people watch "The Voice"?
FRom the blogAlrighty! If you are interested even in the least as to why I auditioned for The Voice in the first place, you wonít mind sitting through this blog and hearing my side of things. I know some of you think I donít need this opportunity, think Iím too established for the show, or even think Iím too ďfamousĒ (no way!) to be a contestant. The cool thing about The Voice, and the biggest aspect that made me want to participate, is they donít try to hide the fact that they give well-established artists another chance; as they have made very clear with the past 2 seasonís artists. That being said, they also give artists chances that have had little to zero success in this industry. Itís a huge opportunity to expand your fan base if you already have one, and just as important to create one as a new artist. Put simply, it gives the exposure that every artist dreams of.

I think some perceptions of fame are skewed. Sure, compared to your next-door neighbor who sings Karaoke on Fridays, maybe I am some sort of famous. But compared to superstars like Katy Perry or Justin Beiber, I am nowhere near famous. And thatís the main point. I wasnít content with where my career was; I hadnít hit that point in my life where I thought, ďYes, Iíve finally made it.Ē My dreams and goals are much, much bigger than some of you realize, and maybe even bigger than I had ever realized. I love all my fans, every single one of you, and I thank you for your continued support. However, the one hundred-some thousand followers I have on twitter doesnít even come close to the audience that I have the opportunity to perform for on The Voice. I am extremely grateful for all the things Iíve accomplished in my life and career so far, and I will never dismiss the success that my band and I had. But the reality is we hit a ceiling, and we werenít growing anymore. The same could be said about my solo career; I moved to LA, contacted every single person Iíve met over the years, released new music, and met with label after label. Yet no matter how hard I worked, nothing was catching on.

I've had a ton of experience in this field, I've worked long and hard, and I have sacrificed a lot for an opportunity this massive to come along. To say I should be happy with how far I've gotten is not fair, and unjustified. I am extremely happy with every success story I have had, and even proud of some of my missteps. But I didn't start singing at 4 years old to make it "relatively far" in music. I started singing because I wanted to change the world and be a star. All I ask is that you give me a chance to prove I've made the right decision. I thank everyone (friends, family, fans) who have looked at this in a positive light, and am excited to change the peoples mind who haven't. I'm extremely happy to be a part of this incredible show, and am having the time of my life so far. So jump on the bandwagon and come along for the ride! Love you guys.

More power to her. It's a shame she even has to defend her choice to go on this show. Will be rooting for her.

okay...

Also, i can't help but find it funny when people said "I started singing when i was 4 years old". Doesn't pretty much everyone? Even those who can't sing?

That's not what i should have gotten from the article, but oh well.

I'd rather have her try to explain why it's so important for her to be more famous in the first place. I'm sure that would be more interesting to read.

So her main goal is being famous, getting recognized and having a larger and larger fan base? It's not about the music? Hm. I can't respect an artist that thinks that way.

I'm a fan of hers. I like her voice and a few Hey Monday songs are pretty good pop rocks songs imo. However I wish she was more focused on creating music rather than simply wanting to be famous.

Yeah she didn't really think through her response very well before posting, did she?

I have no issue with her being on the show, but it seems like kind of a cop out when you've been a solo artist for 9 months, your first ep has only been out for 3 months and you're already saying that you've exhausted all means necessary and treating the show as a last resort.

I'm a little unclear why people are against people with past "fame" going on these shows--especially one like The Voice where a lot of the contestants have past experience in the industry.

Really hope Cass and Joe get far this season!

People are mad at her for being on the show? Oh please

Are you guys really gonna act like 90% of bands/artists/etc in the music industry aren't in it for fame?

Just because she admits it doesn't mean she's the only one thinking it.

You've gotta agree that she should have mentioned the music-making aspect at least a little more. Basically her entire response to her fans was that she wanted to be MORE famous. True or not, that definitely doesn't seem like the best move.
