"Stram" it up!

plns 10/31/12 02:43 PM

Excellent.

SteveLikesMusic 10/31/12 02:43 PM

I fuckin' love strams. "Misery" is amazing.

Zack Zarrillo 10/31/12 02:43 PM

I think Misery is the best song the band has ever written

CluckyB 10/31/12 02:44 PM

Listening to the Skinny Love track now... the echo vocal track really seems to hurt it. It makes it sound too much like the original and while it works great for Bon Iver and worked great on We Did It When We Were Young... I think here it just stops the cover from having a life of its own in anyway. The main vocals are spot on though... so more "so close to being something truly great but annoyances get in the way" from Gaslight =(

is the tracking on hold you up messed up? Or is it supposed to randomly jump between ears like that. Cause it seems really random and out of place so I'm hoping its just caused by a bad uipload...

Slangster 10/31/12 02:49 PM

Holy hell this is great. Misery is fantastic.

EndlessPrisoner 10/31/12 02:52 PM

Skinny Love cover should never have been released. Painful.

kidinthebushes 10/31/12 03:00 PM

None of these do much for me but I still plan on looking for this on Record Store Day Black Friday.

not sure if its me or what the issue is but while the song is great, listening to this song with headphones, but the vocals are to panning from left ear to right ear and popping in on the right ear on some notes. either its on my end or a mixing fail.

the sound is definitely off in the upload of this song, it can't be me.

Just listened to the album on my laptop, with headphones, definitely a problem with the upload I'm assuming, cause I don't hear anything with the vocals panning in my headphones. Or any popping.

Also think it's a great song, but I don't think it's the best song the band has ever written.

you're just wrong. your opinion on music is invalid. mine is valid.

Good songs. Love the Gaslight Anthem. That "Skinny Love" cover is awful though. Just really, really bad.

popdisaster00 10/31/12 03:25 PM

I don't think the Skinny Love cover is that bad. There's something so untouchable about that Bon Iver album that no cover will come close, but this is a solid attempt and most Gaslight fans should be happy to have it.

This.

No where near "bad" ... it's a cover, takes a new spin on it ... it does what it set out to do.

Heh, when things like 'Here's Look at You, Kid" exist ... it's gonna be hard to top.

iAMhollyood315 10/31/12 03:31 PM

I wish Brian fallon would just put out a whole acoustic CD like separate from horrible crowes and gaslight. I always enjoy the stripped down acoustic songs he does.

brentstailing 10/31/12 03:52 PM

I have a huge Misery boner right now

oneeightytwo 10/31/12 04:03 PM

Not available in your country. Typical.

bladerdude360 10/31/12 04:07 PM

Dig this. I actually like the "Skinny Love" cover, although I can see some people's complaints about it. It doesn't alter the original drastically, but it definitely has a Gaslight vibe to it.

Agreed, but I'm confused what you mean by "that" Bon Iver album? I feel like as amazing as For Emma is, Bon Iver, Bon Iver is almost universally liked more?

Also I like the cover, the echo is an odd touch, but it's growing on me. Easily the best Bon Iver cover I've ever heard.

I think they're both loved universally. I meant that it's hard to recreate the raw passion from For Emma. That's such a non-studio album, you know? So creating a really polished version of a raw, barely produced song might throw some people off.

I don't believe any song is untouchable. This just doesn't add anything new to the song at all, much like his "Everlong" cover. Compare that to, say, his cover of "Teenage Dream" and it just pales.

For example, this cover of "Holocene":

Matt Chylak 10/31/12 06:13 PM

not a fan of the Skinny Love cover. made if he kept his voice all in a lower range and they didn't try to ape the vocal layering.

Archael 10/31/12 08:03 PM

an ep so soon?

Theow593 10/31/12 08:34 PM

It's no this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zznkuk5ZB-o

But that cover of Skinny Love is great.

Ferrari333SP 10/31/12 08:50 PM

"Misery" blows me away; just wow.

I've been screaming this for years. I swear I think there was plans of that back when The Blues Mary and Italian Lightning were floating around. I love the vibe of his voice over a single acoustic guitar.

salmarnirecho 10/31/12 11:10 PM

Eh, Skinny Love was pretty cringe-worthy for me. Do really enjoy "Misery" and "Hold You Up" though.

JayDanielHammer 10/31/12 11:18 PM

Doesn't play on my phone. Drats.

zporter92 11/01/12 02:32 AM

Misery is good, but it keeps switching sides on my speakers, and it's throwing me off lol

Nap 11/01/12 09:03 AM

Good, but too mellow.

nivek87 11/01/12 09:17 AM

whats up with the vocals? sounds undewater, he record this shit when hurricane sandy hit jersey?

Whats is the best song Gaslight has in their catalog?

Really digging this EP - big fan of these guys. American Slang didn't really stick with me, but have really enjoyed everything else.

That's a relief. Panning really threw me for a loop the first time I listened to it.

indiesuperman 11/01/12 01:40 PM

Unfortunately, I agree quite a lot with what's been said about the Skinny Love cover. While not terrible, I agree that the echo was a poor choice effects choice and Fallon should definitely have maintained his own vocal range quite a bit more. Solid effort, but an ultimate miss. Maybe that opinion will change with a few more listens. Hold You Up and Misery, though, are really good. Definitely an EP to get, if only for those songs. Hoping the local Eau Claire record store will get a couple copies!

GirlsNoGood 11/02/12 12:41 PM

At first listen I don't love any of them, but they're not bad. Maybe they'll grow on me. I don't know, his vocals at times seem a little too strained or something.

adamKS 11/02/12 07:35 PM

legiiiiiiiiiit. . .i was hoping for a new upbeat/faster song from them but i'll take anything new from these guys. .the well just doesn't seem to ever run dry

mstarnes30 11/03/12 09:17 AM

Misery is incredible gonna be a great EP!
